A quote to ponder....
"A democracy ... can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess of the public treasury. From that time on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the results that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship" -- Sir Alex Fraser Tytler

Hey Roscoe, welcome back.
How was your vacation? :D :D |
"Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself."
- Samuel Adams Mr Tytler was off the mark. A "failed" democracy would be followed by anarchy, not dictatorship. A monarchy or dictatorship doesn't exist. It's always a small group in power that promotes a "leader" or dictator but it's never just a single person. There's always a group behind the curtain. A government that is ruled by a small group is an Oligarchy. That's what we've had in power over the past eight years. The GOP had it coming. They've lost sight of the true ideals of a republic. If the far left continue to tell us that GWB had nothing to do with the state of the nation today, they will continue to lose every existing available seat. They need to get their collective sh!t together and focus on turning things around. McCain was warned of just that after the first debate. He didn't listen and he lost because he doesn't have republicanism in his heart. They have no plan, they have no agenda, and most importantly, they have no leader. It sickens me that the GOP today evangelizes less government and less hands in our pockets when the opposite is EXACTLY what we've been experiencing. I recently read a post by some ignoramace that if GWB didn't win, we'd be in even worse shape. Give me a freakin break. |
