So, a law is passed against gay marriage and then reversed. Probably will pass in a few years?. What stops other fringe groups?.

Jamo 11-07-2008 10:46 AM

So a good example can be discussed, name other legal "fringe groups" you are concerned about. In other words...fringe groups involving consenting adults where the practice is not illegal.

Well, I'm doomed to spend time in just about every Hell there is. Feel free to swing by when you 're serving your time in Catholic Hell; I'll buy you a pint of the good stuff. I hope you don't mind room temp as I hear that is how it is served for Americans (though I'm not sure what 'room temp' will actually be...). ;)

We Orthodox folks always figured you folks were messing around in them little side closets...holy glory holes. What passes for admissions of wrong doing were the earliest forms of arial sex (later replaced by phone lines).

And then you have them folks whipping themselves into a frenzy, and the nuns using their prayer beads in unlikely ways.

Yup...I think I'm getting more nervous about Catholics than the other gays.

So what harm does gay marriage cause?

Steve

Wasn't there a recent federal case regarding polygamy? oh yeah, none of the women weren't consenting.

you can buy clothes and help their cause.

Jerry Lee Lewis was considered a pedophile, and his "wife" was fine with it, that's consent.

Considering the legal protections of "domestic partnerships" what good does having a piece of paper which says "marriage certificate"?

I don't like the government legislating morality at all.

The problem is that history has shown the degradation of morality in society by such inclusive justification of specific acts will ultimately lead to societie's downfall.

Wasn't "consent" under the law.

Go back and read what a "marriage certificate" provides...government, business, credit, etc.

Those polygamists were not legal. You used a double negative
(none of the women weren't consenting.), and I'm thinking it came out the way you intended (that the women were consenting). Please correct me if I am wrong. The women may have consented, but that does not change their legal status (minors - which negates any consent anyways, and polygamy - consent is irrelevant.)

If someone is not old enough then there is no consent, so it does not matter what jerry Lee Lewis' wife says.. I'm going by MA laws as I have read a bunch of those before. Jamo, feel free to correct me if I go off base (but please explain why cause I find a lot of this stuff fascinating and I like the details).

Go back and re-read Jamos mention of insurance policies and such that specifically say 'marriage'. Car rental agencies, credit cards, hospitals might not recognise a civil union as having the same rights as a marriage certificate would give.

If it isn't consent, how could they consummate their marriage given California Penal Code 286?

In looking up the differences between domestic partnership and marriage, I found this ..

http://gaylife.about.com/od/samesexm...orniamarry.htm

"California already grants domestic partnerships with most of the rights of marriage. "

and

http://www.examiner.com/x-358-SF-Cit...-Board-Preview

"For California state law purposes though, the Family Code requires that registered domestic partners “have the same rights, protections, and benefits, and … be subject to the same responsibilities, obligations, and duties under law … as are granted and imposed upon spouses.” (Cal. Fam. Code sec. "

To me.... this seems like a lot of work for a piece of paper, I can only hope despite

"For starters, you should know that federal law recognizes only marriage between a man and a woman."

the IRS will start treating them as DINKs.

I still can not find the difference between a domestic partner and a piece of paper which must make them feel justified.

Mormon? I know lots of Mormons...what happened to you? :p

Honestly...I come from the oldest and most conservative of Christian faiths (Armenian Apostolic), I am a staunch conservative Republican (I put my money where my mouth is), I don't believe in abortions nor do I think the sexual practices of gays are asspecially appealing (though I will sit mesmirized watching two beautiful ladies enjoying each other's company...but heh, that's art), and I certainly do believe in our right to attack and blow the hell out of any country that we feel like...

...but for crying out loud, why do we continue to tell each other what to do and how to live based upon our own biases? Socrates and the rest of the boys were all messing with each other, and yet we glorify them for creating our Western Culture.

That being said...Barney Frank is a cawksucker.

Go back and read about protections under the law for domestic partnerships. Then they should take issue with those industries which have discriminated against them, as it is not the government.

I have a few legal fringe groups:
Swingers (until they charge admission)
the KKK.
Satanists

My dad smoked when I was a kid (he was not Mormon - my mum was), and I hated it. Some of the church elders also smoked, and I hated that, too. They preached no smoking and no drinking - yet here they were... Bloody hypocrites...I was baptised at 8 and by age 10 or 11 I was done with it and told my mum that if she forced me to go I would scream during the entire service.

Yep, Frank is a cawksuckah (my feeble attempt at a Southie accent), and kind of an idiot too.;)

Jamo 11-07-2008 12:05 PM

J.T....could you please help me understand what the relevance of the state law prohibiting certain acts of sodomy is to Jerry Lee Lewis' situation?

The Family Law Code provisions relating to domestic partnerships don't regulate certain business practices regulated by federal law.

I would need to enlist both roscoe and CDC to help me cut/paste treatises to fully assplain why a marriage license occupies a higher level of legal significance than a domestic partnership license.

I believe that on South Park, it was revealed that the Mormon religion was the single correct religion for getting into heaven. Of course they don't depict Hell as looking as all that bad and one of Satan's boyfriends is Sadam... :JEKYLHYDE

I don't understand what you are getting at. If you were being sarcastic about them then why bother to bring it up at all as it does nothing for your argument. Polygamy is illegal for it's own reasons, and really has nothing to do with gay marriage. Why do you think it does?

Those protections are good in some cases, but there is also the emotional attachment to marriage. Why deny them that (a lot of gay people seem to be a bit more emotional than average anyway, so let 'em be happy until they find out what divorce is like:LOL:)

Who does it harm, and how does it harm them if gays are allowed to marry.?

Hmmm - the episode I saw had Joseph Smith writing tablets in his attic and then saying they were given to him by god. People would ask to see them and he would say that they were only visible to the true believers. Or something like that. I was laughing my ass off!
