Opening day 2008

It took all day and a number of trips inside to warm up, but I got this 10 point with 45 minutes of day light left. We sat and waited to see if another one would make himself available for Erich.

We will have some meat in the freezer!

:D :D :D

Nice.

Nothing like a good venison roast.

4RE KLR 11-15-2008 05:29 PM

Nice buck Tru.

Now you are covered for a month or so.

392cobra 11-15-2008 05:40 PM

Good you had your dog there to start tenderizing that nice buck.

I guess your dog came out of the closet?

Nice Shooting!

:)

Good pictures and a nice deer Tru. That should get you through a couple of days for food.

I think this one will get us well into 2009, thanks.

My wife will hunt Monday and Wednesday. She may get one as well.

Not sure about Fred's picture, that dog is messed up.

:D :D

trularin 11-24-2008 11:40 AM

My wife got a 6 point yesterday afternoon.

We have enough meat to keep us until next season.

Now we need some pork. :D :D :D

4RE KLR 11-24-2008 11:47 AM

Congrats.

I have heard that the season is good in many places this year.

trularin 11-24-2008 01:18 PM

You must be talking to people on the other side of the state.

It was one of the worse opening days in years. Snowing, wind blowing at high rates and rain was mixing in as the temps moved between 31 and 34 degrees all during the day. The west side of the state might have had a better opening day.

This weekend was flurries and temps coming out of the mid to high teens to very low thirties.

It was just good hunting and we use good scent products.

When we dropped off the first deer at the butcher, the guys said it was the slowest in fifteen years.

I am glad we did good as the price of gas has gone down, but the price of food is still up there.

So, Steve, did you hunt this year??

:D :D

4RE KLR 11-24-2008 02:32 PM

NO, I do not hunt.

Not that I wouldn't hunt, I just don't. I think I have told you before I would not know how to dress out an animal, and I do not believe in killing it and not using the meat.

The last time I hunted was with my dad when I was about twelve. I do enjoy it, or at least I did when I was a kid with my dad.

I have heard many people say that they have done better this year than they ever have this early in the season.

I have Remington 7MM. It was my dad's gun. I got it when he died. He always took very good care of all of his weapons. I dropped the gun several years ago at the gun range and broke the scope (cross hairs). What scope would you recommend I put on it? It has always bothered me that I have not put a new scope on the gun. My dad would not be happy!

trularin 11-25-2008 07:07 AM

Sorry, forgot about that. Yes you did tell me.

For a scope, It is a matter of money. How much you spend relates to how nice the scope is. I personally like fixed power scopes without a lot of "added features".

If you like, I can find you something decent and let you know. You can PM me with the amount you want to spend. In my area, people are selling all kinds of stuff.

:D

4RE KLR 11-25-2008 08:02 AM

You have mail.

E-mail not a PM.

and thanks

trularin 11-25-2008 11:47 AM

I checked Craigs List for my area and other than a very expensive scope, there were no others worth checking.

You might want to try ebay and check out my response email.

:D

I went hunting yesterday and bagged 2 thin end briskets for corned beef. All dressed and packaged. One was $4.50 off and the second one was $5.50 off. All they were selling was turkeys, so I loaded up the freezer with meat.

It was nice saving $10 and did not even have to use any ammo.

As far as a scope is concerned, I find that a phone works better. All of the good supermarkets are not visible from my house. So I just call up and ask.

Beam me up Scottie, this rain really $uck$.

4RE KLR 11-25-2008 02:05 PM

Warren,

You need to take your meds.

If you are taking them you need to get stronger ones. ;)
:LOL::LOL::LOL:

trularin 11-26-2008 05:54 AM

Steve, if you do not do anything with the rifle, at least oil the inside and outside of the barrel with a light gun oil.

You do not want to have rust form on the metal, it will pit and ruin the firearm.

You may not use the rifle, but it possibly will be something you hand down to your son and in time, he will do the same.

Try to keep it in good shape.

Dang, if you were down the street I'd tell ya to bring it over and I'd take care of it.

:D :D

I think that for the money, The Leupold is the best you can get. I say "for the money" as I know there are plenty of high dollar (multi thousands) optics out there. I have owned just about all of them & find the Leupold to be one tough scope.
Just my .02 cents.
Happy Thanksgiving!

trularin 11-28-2008 08:24 AM

Yes, the Leupold is a fine optical attachment. I agree, it would be a very good scope for Steve's 7mm.

I have a Russian military scope, it is very good. Too bad you can find those in quantity.
