This is your responsibility as privileged Arizona drivers to know new motor vehicle laws, the state doesn't send out mailings. So if you have a frame holder that covers the name Arizona on your license plate, remove it before Jan 1, 2009, and replace it with one that doesn't cover the name Arizona." License Plate Holder Law - State law* requires that the state name at the top of Arizona license plates must be visible. Texas did this about two years ago. The reason they gave was because that the name of the State needed to be visible to the cameras at Toll Booths when you run the booth.Not Paying the toll.
If not visible to the camera the ticket can end up being dismissed. |

Just like here in ct. Years ago the state created a law that stopped every town from getting money from each ticket an officer wrote. Obviously less tickets where written. Two years ago they recinded the law and now every ticket an officer writes, $10.00 goes to the police dept. GUESS WHAT-they write tickets for anything they can now.

Without knowing what state the plate is from a peace officer can't run the vehicle. I used to be a Deputy Sheriff, and this was a problem with out of state vehicles with the state covered.

Problem with that is a local state law does not help that. States must still respect all other states motor vehicle laws. Texas and Arizona cannot ticket a Nebraska Driver for it as it is not a Nebraska law and the vehicle is legal in the state it is registered in.
**So long as that person is a resident of the state it is registered in. In Texas, you have 30 days to change your registration over when you move to Texas. |
Lets just call it what it is REVENUE for the state and insurance companys who help write the laws. Here in ct we pay $20.00 when we buy a NEW car to NOT have it inspected for emmissions. DOES THAT MAKE SENSE or just REVENUE~~~

Great Point! If the camera can't get the correct State...during a speedy photo camera shot...you may get a ticket sent to you for a car in another state. This has happened to me already and it is a "pain in the A**" to get it corrected.
Be wise and just get that little plain chrome lic. plate frame from the PEP Boys. Bill |

Here in Texas, the picture of the state in the center of the plate is a dead giveaway as well. Not a whole lot of states shaped like Texas.

This happened in California and it turned out to be a lic. plate from another state that had violated the law. Had to send in a pictures of my plate (twice) with letters, and phone calls, to the state DMV and point out that the font was different too. Those knuckleheads in California can't even look at a picture of their own state plate and see that the original violators plate was different.

You have to enter the state on the MDT when you run a plate, and for rollers you are supposed to run via the radio for safety reasons. The dispatchers also need to know the state to run it. The first words out of your mouth on a roller is the state, then the numbers and letters.
I am not saying you are wrong, I am just telling you that it does cause a problem when you don't know what state the plate is from. If I am trying to run a roller and can't, I have to walk up on a car that I don't know if it is stolen or not. |
