Turkeys, Cows, and other assorted tasty critters.

I was prepping the turkey this year (we get ours from a farm), and my wife was sort of half watching. I was cleaning out the cavity and saving the guts (I like 'em cooked with butter, garlic, Tobasco, and cajun spices - and nobody else will eat them), and I pulled out one my wife had not seen. My wife was looking at this innard and said it looked strange and asked if I was going to eat it; I said no because I'm not fond of eating lungs. She immediately turned white, stood there for a few seconds, and then turned and left making gagging noises.

She understands that food does not magically appear on foam trays, but I did get a bit of a chuckle out of it, especially given the recent Palin footage showing the turkey 'guillotine' in use.

I don't subscribe to the 'they were put here for us' notion, but I do have to wonder sometimes where people think their food comes from. Though I think it is probably better if the alchemy that produces Twinkies is a stone left unturned.;)

Ted Nugent Territory.....

......eh?

I met this guy who said he and his wife were "strict vegans"* (Sp?) and I asked him why, expecting to get some physiological/medical reasons (he was a doctor)---his response was he lived on a ranch as a kid in Wyoming and had at some point gone to see some white-faced Hererfords (Sp?) "processed". Until then he had been a Friday night steak addict.

Gorp!

*initially, I thought they were some weird Trekkies, or su'um....ar-ar-ar

Hey look, CDC has a new Avatar. Cute.

We process our own meat sometimes, but not all the time. It is a lot of work.

Turkeys are not too bad. The ones in the wild are not fattened and injected, they taste very good as long as they are prepared properly. I usually leave the insides for the roaming criters that clean that up, sorry Steve.

:D :D :D
