In 2004, a year when their total donations came to almost $6 million, the Madoffs sent $2.5 million to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital and $1.7 million to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Some non-cancer charities made out pretty well in 2005. Actually, giving to the charities is part of the pattern as the donations are noted by people with money to invest - it's part of the circle of deception, it's part of being in the right crowd.
There is, sort of, an up side to this...he's a very liberal Democrat that gave 100's of thousand to Democrats and most of the funds provided to him were more than likely from liberals with personal referrals to him the major method of investing with him. Of cours, a pittance compared to the ponzi scheme called Social Security. |
