Yahoo! PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man enraged by a noisy family sitting near him in a movie theater on Christmas night shot the father of the family in the arm, police said.
James Joseph Cialella, 29, of Philadelphia, told the man's family to be quiet, then threw popcorn at the man's son, police said. The victim told police that Cialella was walking toward his family when he stood up and was shot.

Detectives called to the United Artists Riverview Stadium theater in South Philadelphia found Cialella carrying the weapon, a .380-caliber handgun, in his waistband, police said.

Cialella faces six charges that include attempted murder and aggravated assault. He remained in custody Saturday. Police said bail had been set, but they did not know the amount.

Lt. Frank Vanore called the incident "scary that it gets to that level of violence from being too noisy during a movie."

Vanore said the 31-year-old victim from suburban Yeadon was hospitalized in stable condition after the shooting. His name had not been released.

It was not immediately known whether Cialella had a lawyer. A woman who answered a call to Cialella's home number Saturday declined to comment.

A theater manager referred calls to Regal Entertainment Group spokesman **** Westerling, who did not immediately return a phone message Saturday.

Police could not confirm what movie was playing in the theater, but The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that it was "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

Man-o-man, I have felt that way many times. Good thing I don't take a gun to the movies.

Curious Case of Benjamin Button is rated pg-13. There's the problem. People take children to movies that are not appropriate. I don't condone shooting the dad, but really, the kids MOST LIKELY shouldn't have been there in the first place. :(

pg-13 really should be more like pg-15!! jmho.

I took my munchins to Bedtime Stories yesterday. Nobody with pistols in there.
hmmmm.

I heard on the local news that the guy sat back down to watch the rest of the movie and was arrested when the POlice arrived.

Kind of extreme to say the least, but those parents fail to contol their kids and themselves when in a public place.

Perhaps he should have gotten shot the in the A**, so next time he was asked to quiet the kids down...he would think about the pain in his A** and heed the warning.

Frontier Justice...will always rule! Bill

I suspect that the rude,loud-mouthed family is a bit quieter in a movie theater from here on out.

With everybody packing here in Texas, people tend to be more polite in public places.:)

Maybe theaters will start handing out and requiring gags/muzzles be worn by the women & kids.
Just file it under gun safety.

Fred,

It seems that almost every movie I go to there is at least one bunch that just makes noise the whole time. But at least I can get up and leave. Now that 5 hour flight from back East when I was working and the two kids that screamed the whole trip was really annoying. Everyone on the flight except their Mother was ready to throw them off the plane and the flight attendants asked her at least six times to quite them down and she refused. It was their right to yell and scream as she had paid for the seats.

That's why netflix is in business.

The last movie I went to see in a theater was Titanic. Yep, it was long ago.

I have a media room with a 65 inch wide screen and pretty good sound system. Looking to upgrade to a 100 or 120 inch projection system sometime in the future.

Don't have to pay outragous prices at home, and if I have to get up for something, I pause it and don't miss a thing.
