Slot cars (yes, two Cobra coupes)

I am a little short of cash to own a real Shelby Cobra coupe. So, I bought an HO slot car track that included 63' of track and two Shelby coupes (one black, one silver).

The technology is much more advanced since my last slot car kit (30+ years ago ;) ). These little suckers are fast and will spin the tires.

That is a nice layout. Who make this one? My last slot car track and layout was about 15 years ago and it wasn't anything near what yours is. The only technology it had was a lap counter and you could change the cars gear ratios.

The instructions say that it is the Tomy Corporation and mentions AFX Aurora Factory Experiments. It also mentions a toll free number for parts and a catalog of high performance parts :D. 877-866-9239.

The track fits on a 4' X 8' piece of plywood (in my basement). I was going to place the track at a ~4' height so I could sit and play. After a few incidents of the cars flying off due to driver error, I decided the floor was a safer place for flying cars.

Each car is remarkable similar in performance (my old set wasn't so). And 64 feet of track requires careful concentration. Of course, after I practice, I plan to invite some guys over for beer and slot car racing. ;)

I may even order a couple of GT40s:
