I was just watching the news and it seems that NASCAR has lowered some ticket prices to the Daytona 500 from $99 to $55 as they have a lot of empty seats. I know when I watched the qualifying yesterday it sure didn't seem like they had nearly the number of people there that they used to have. I never watched the shootout so I don't know if they had a good crowd or not. Ron |

Anyone besides me watch the 500 yesterday and think Jr. made an ass of himself? In the Saturday race they penalized a driver 5 laps for doing basically the exact same thing.

Junior is very popular with the fans so he won't receive any reprimand for his dumb a$$ move.
How did you like the rap intro on Speed a hour or two before the race actually started. I couldn't believe that I would ever see a rap performance on a NASCAR program. Wayne |

NASCAR is turning into nothing but a big side show. Racing now is just secondary to them. I most likely won't watch many of their races any more if I can find one of the road races on TV. They are turning into the car version of wrestling. Change rules to protect their stars, do anything to avoid punishing them, and let them do anything they want. Jr. should have been called in and held for the 5 lap penalty they gave that unknown in the Saturday race. Next they will be scripting the races as to who is to win and how it is to go. Ron |

Yea, it is kind of strange how those phantom debris cautions always come just after Jeff Gordon or Jimmy Johnson get caught a lap down and are eligible for the free pass back to the lead lap. Ron :rolleyes: |

" Why didn't NASCAR penalize Dale Earnhardt Jr.? There are 70 laps remaining in the Daytona 500 and we have our first major controversy of the season, and there are two main culprits: Dale Earnhardt Jr., NASCAR’s most popular driver, and NASCAR itself. Fans have to be asking themselves what is wrong with Earnhardt Jr. First, he makes two critical mistakes on pit road, taking himself out of contention by missing his pit stall and then pitting outside his pit box. Then he caused a major pile-up that took out several contenders to win the Daytona 500. Already a lap down, Earnhardt Jr. dove below the yellow line to try and pass Brian Vickers. When Vickers blocked him, Earnhardt Jr. hooked the rear of his car, sending cars crashing all around them. It was a stupid move by a driver obviously dealing with some pent-up frustration. The only thing more outrageous than Earnhardt Jr.’s move was NASCAR’s decision not to penalize him. A day earlier, NASCAR penalized Jason Leffler five laps for causing a crash in the Nationwide Series race. Leffler’s mistake occurred in the middle of the track, during a three-wide battle and wasn’t nearly as blatant. He took out only three cars. Earnhardt Jr. attempted to pass below the yellow line – a clear violation – and then made an ill-advised move while trying to recover, causing a major pile-up that marred the biggest race of the season. Yet NASCAR, for whatever reason, did not penalize him. This is bound to stir up the conspiracy theorists that already believe that NASCAR favors its biggest star. It’s a fair question: Would it have penalized another driver for making the same move? Earnhardt Jr. made an ill-advised move. So did NASCAR " |
I can think of about 9 drivers who will not forget Jr.'s dumba$$ move and remarks about it afterwards, come the next race.......hopefully he'll get the payback he deserves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was kind of disappointed in him that he tried to blame it on the other driver. One thing is obvious, he will never be anything near what his Father was so far as a driver. He screwed up all day and NASCAR did everything they could to help him out. The least he could have did was admit in the interview that he was frustrated and was to blame for what anyone who saw the race knew was just a blatant attempt to knock the other car out of his way. I think NASCAR has a long and somewhat sorry season ahead of them. Ron :mad: |

Jr, now claiming that his tire being on the white line should not have been a penalty. It has been that way for years so why should it be changed because he can't park in the Pit Box? While I don't root for Jr. on sunday, I certainly don't hate him either..... He screwed up and needs to admit it and take it like a man, if not, the other drivers like Burton/Busch brothers will see he gets whats coming to him!!!!!!!! He's starting to sound like a cry baby about the rules, he was on/over the line, no question, he got penalized, also, watching the replay of the wreck, it certainly looked to me like an intentional hit he put on Vickers.....It's not like Jr. NEVER blocked anyone himself...... And as far as Darrell Waltrip, well, he needs to be ***** slapped badly.....it's so obvouis in his comentary that he's the president of the Jr. fan club that it's beyound funny now, really annoying the way he takes up for and roots for Jr. every chance he gets..... And NASCAR wonders why the rating are falling and they have empty seats.......the last race I went to, Davey Allison was still alive and racing and it was exciting in those days...... Now many sundays, I'm in my shop working on my junk heaps, like I'll probably be doing this coming sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!! David |

I don't hate any of the drivers, I just don't like some of them much. And the way they throw those phony caution flags to help their stars if they get a lap down is really disgusting to me.As I said, if there is a road race on that I can watch I will watch it and not NASCASR. Jr will never be the driver his Father was and that is not surprising. I would hate to be the son of any really top sports figure and try to follow in my Father's footsteps. Look at Kyle Petty. He never got close to doing what Richard did. And NASCAR not penalizing Jr. was about the last straw as they penalized the driver the day before for 5 laps and the wreck he caused wasn't even close to what Jr. did. Ron |

The rating was down 9.8 percent from last year’s 10.2/20. Fox said the rating for this year was hurt by the cancellation of the race’s final 48 laps because of rain during “what are historically its most-watched laps” but still averaged 16.0 million viewers. I see some of the track owners are trying to switch some things around and lower tickets and other stuff as they don't have the sales they normally have by now. We will see how they fare this weekend here in California.

I watched some of the qualifying yesterday and Jr. wouldn't talk about Daytona. He was to busy complaining about the car he has here in California and it won't turn, doesn't have any speed and on and on. I also saw that Tiger will be playing in this weekends tournament. I hope that he does well and his knee and leg hold up. I would like to see him break the record for Masters won, but it is going to be hard to do now that he is older and has gone through this lay off. I still think given the level of player he has had to compete against he is one of if not the greatest golfer ever. And they don't even use skates and those funny wooden sticks to beat each other with. That added for Tru in case he reads this thread. :LOL: Ron :) |
