Computer Tip

I was just helping a friend with a computer problem via the phone .... and I told him to increase the size of the object he was viewing in Explorer. After a few seconds I said OK ... and he said rather loudly ...
WAIT A MINUTE, WILL YA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was in the control panel and changing the font size.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo I said.

Just hold down the CONTROL key and spin the wheel on you mouse or press the + or - keys on the keyboard.

I thought everyone knew this ... I guess not. He is a big computer geek and could not believe what I told him. He said it was the best Christmas present.

Try it, you'll like it ... especially if your eyesight is not what it used to be. **)**)

Doesn't change anything on mine.%/

Are you using Internet Explorer or Firefox?

Just hold down the CTRL key and then press the plus or minus sign key, or turn the range wheel on you mouse.

If you are a MAC user, hold down the COMMAND key and then use the + or - sign keys (NOT the mouse wheel).

Push the other key or turn the wheel the opposite way.

DUH. Anything close is enough.

Sorry, I had to be a ba$tard. Do not worry, no matter what size you leave the page, once you close out your browser and then relaunch it, the size will default back to normal.

In Firefox, you can return to the Default zoom view with Control-NumPad zero (with numlock turned on).

Wait a few months and Windows 7 will be out. Then we can learn a new way of doing it.

That is so cool. I teach computers and didn't know that. Don't tell my supervisor!

At least I know how to change it by clinking in the lower right corner to change the magnification so I don't feel that dumb.

The mouse wheel is so quick and easy.

Yeah, but did you know that you can do the same thing (quick size charges) using the same techniques discussed here for Excel and Word documents?

CalHusker 01-19-2009 11:27 AM

Thank you for the tip......

yep, thats how I stumbled on it to begin with. I was holding cntl to select mulitple items and scrolled down with the wheel and just resized everything. It is quite handy actually.

I use the ctrl shortcuts a lot as well. In any program I look at the commonly used items and they usually list the keyboard shortcut in the menu bar next to the item. It is so much faster to use shortcuts.
