My father served on a Destroyer during WWII, and sometimes talks about how he and his mates would throw tomato's and/or potato's at Zero's as they flew by, being chased by either an F6 or F4U! Hey Perry, I too agree that the presumption that man is wholly or even largely responsible for global climate changes, is a ridiculous bandwagon that thrives on federal and international research grants and funding. It's good however to remain conscious of the reality that for the sake of our own quality of life, we have to be careful how we treat the air and water we depend on in the fishbowl aquarium (airquarium?) that is our ecosystem.

PS: About only having a beer with folks that agree with you - it's all good ol' buddy - but don't the conversations get a little boring sometimes?

I watched a show on TV some time ago about Global warming and they were in some foreign countries showing where they had dug and found evidence all over the world that the planet has gone through some very warm cycles. One of them said the water at the South Pole was warm enough to swim in but that the atmosphere would not support life as we know it. Then they went on with some long explanation of how all of the life including vegetation that had existed then had died and then it began to rot and form gases and slowly the carbon monoxide I believe it was caused some minor organisms to from in the ocean and as they increased and something else happened, oxygen was formed and went into the atmosphere. It was interesting but somewhat complicated to me as I am not a scientist and didn't really understand some of the technical terms they were using. But they ended the show in plain English with, the Earth has gone through warming and ice cycles in the past and will again in the future and all we may be doing is speeding up the next warming cycle by a few years. I am for doing all we can to clean up our messes, but that won't stop what is eventually going to happen again.

I've said before, keeping the home planet clean is a big, big plus, just don't believe junk science has a handle predictions. Man!, that money sure could be put to better use.......imo.

Even though I'm a mere sprout (closing in on 64), I too served as a Weaps officer on TWO WW II-era destroyers. Both the USS Compton and USS Damato were "all gun" Sumner class modified with 14 extra feet Loa. The latter mod was to enhance fuel bunkerage for Pacific duty. We had 5"x38/45s, Bofors 40mm, .50 cals., Mk. 48-53 torps., etc. as noisemakers. One of the two ships had the 40 mms removed and replaced with 3"x50s (a late-war mod. which I still don't understand).

I uster work for "Dr. Titanic" (ego) Bob Ballard as his ship-researcher and finder. As such, I found a buncha sunken ships around Savo Island (Guadalcanal, Solomon Is.) for his "Ghost Ships of Guadalcanal" program. O'course---being a research/archaelogost slave, I didn't get to go. THEN, on my own, about 5 years ago, I started taking Marine and Navy (mostly) veterans back to their WW II digs.

That was some fascinating stuff. My sister (Janie Carter) and the estimable Ronnie Widener ("Ron61" hereabouts) have collaborate in posting some of my "South Pacific" shots. None of my worthy WW II cans, however (we weren't encouraged to shoot too many photos when on duty). The reason for their collaboration is my (apparently) incurable incompetence with a compootah! Yippeee. Remember, I was a PRE-missile Gunnery Officer.Ar-ar-ar!

Hats off to your veteran relatives. "Iron Eagle" (a book about Curtis LeMay) has quite a bit about the B-29s and their combustible magnesium-block engines(!).....

Dam' right Perry! The level of institutionalized deception and the amount of money it involves is a criminal scandal that, when it breaks - will discredit a whole flock of so-called scientists and be the subject of documentaries for years to come.

GW is like the pro ethanol crowd, energy is required to make ethanol, it's nothing more than 'moon shine', so where's the benifit?.
When I was a little redneck, I remember riding with my uncle to pick up a few hundred pounds of sugar, and then off to the woods!. 8 y.o. and I couldn't wait to tell that story, course, when My dad found out, he was ready to kick my uncles a$$.
