Federal Vehicle Scrappage Program

Is anyone aware of this?
H.R.520 and S.247
This is a nationwide "Cash for Clunkers" program in the stimulus package.
They want to scrap up to one million cars a year for at least four years.
Cash vouchers ranging from $2,500 to $4,500 based on the model year and whether the replacement vehicle was a more fuel-efficient new or used car.

Glen,

S-247 was introduced by who else but Fienstien and is basically the same thing as HR 520. They will eventually make it illegal in this state to own or register a vehicle that is over 4 years old. But that will take longer than I have left so it won't affect me. I have already e-mailed them about the asinine amount they are going to give for people to buy new cars with. Of course all of them have exempted themselves from this if they happen to have an older desirable car, and they have the taxpayers money to buy their new jets and cars with every year.

Ron, I sometimes wonder if it will get to the point of no cars at all in California. :JEKYLHYDE I should also add: no tractors, lawn mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters.... well, you get the picture.

Jay,

I think their has been their intent for some years now. Two or three years ago all lawnmowers and garden equipment had to meet California standards. My neighbor got a great buy on an 18 horse garden tractor from Sears as they had to get rid of the ones they had and get the new California approved ones in. Also a guy that I know who is an engineer with Genrac back East told me that they had received notice from California the year before that if they wanted to continue to sell generators in this state they must meet the state emission requirements and not the Federal ones. The last weed eater I bought had the California Approval Seal on it. They want all people to use public transportation and of course up here where people are miles apart in the mountains they say we should build a mass transit railroad between the towns and start bus lines into the mountains. I can see a bus driving 50 miles to pick up one person at 3 AM to get them to work on time. Pelosi, Feinstien, and Boxer added together would still be in the single digits in IQ.

I hear they're giving $1750 for Cobra kits. ($4000 if it has a perky arse or dual roll bars).

Buzz,

If they determine it is worth it they will also give $7K for a 70 Hemi Cuda. And you have to agree to buy a new car with that.

Ron
