By-the-book Police officers are not much more than the physical arm of the political tide...
True story: Prior to the Superbowl my business partner and myself are at a nudie bar to meet with a fellow about leasing one of his buildings (his "office" was in the back of the bar) while waiting we witnessed him meeting with one of the prominent city council members. During this time a crew was building "private dance booths" in the back of the bar. Jacksonville, like many cities banned any nudity in bars serving alchohol. While waiting, we watched the topless girl dancing on stage and drank a beer... (yes we tipped her) After finishing with the council member we had our meeting with the owner... About 2 months after the Superbowl the Police raided this and three other bars, the "private booths" were promptly removed, and the dancers put their tops back on. (after getting bailed out of course) Obviously since times are tough we'll see elevated traffic enforcement and fines as well, pretty much anything short of an assault here gets you an over-the-phone case#. Granted, I also have two stores outside of Jacksonville, with very different law-enforcement examples. When I catch a shoplifter and have it on video and the cop still won't arrest him... Sorry if I don't buy into the "don't have a choice" or "my sworn duty" line. I won't even go into my experiances with the State attorney. |

OF THE TROOPS & FOR THE TROOPS |
Mick-part of my point is that the cop "jammin' this guy for a deuce"* has no merit. What does it accomplish besides costing the guy tons of money and "putting him in the system"?(which i contend is/was the cops intent all along.)This guy wasn't sitting at a bar knocking them back.He wasn't out cruising with his"buddies" drinking.
Does this teach him a lesson? No.The guys child's life was in danger-he reacted the only way he could. And i contend he WASN'T driving under the influence. So my question is-what did this accomplish? I want Ludicrous Speed or anyone who thinks the cop was right to answer this. *"Deuce"is slang for "502" which is the Ca. Penal code number for a DUI. |

I pulled off the highway to go get the little pricks, on the way I see a city cop in a gas station. I flag him down point directly at the kids (we can see them), and show him my mirror. The cop says he won't do anything becuase the kids parents don't care anyway, or else they would be in school. That was his choice. E |
Bill, I agree with you on this one. It accomplished nothing. I would have just made sure he had someone driving him home.
E, People are People. There are good & bad in every profession. If I had been that Patrolman's supervisor, & got wind of the incident & his response to you, he would have had some time off without pay to reflect about his job & duty. You going to the Columbus show 28th & 29th? |
Don't want to steal the thread, yes I am going.
