My best friend in college and best man at our wedding died from colon cancer. Now another friend and mentor just had a foot of colon removed due to a tumor (he's going to be OK).

I went in for a quickie physical and the doctor told me not to put it off any longer. The phone number to call is on the table next to the easy chair.

As I was rolled in for my colonosopy, I saw a bunch of the probes hanging from the wall. I asked the nurse if they came in sizes, does the doctor look at you and say "nurse, Mr. Finster looks like a number 3".

Mark IV.......

....I think they're rated like golf clubs. They can certainly feel like 'em, going "oop thar"!!!!

I can relate a Good 'Un, re the post-process "recuperation"-----first, as you veterans already know, it is entirely true that a lot of "air" is introduced during said process and it's more or less up to you to "pass it on", so to speak..

This being the case, I noted that an absolutely GORGEOUS Nursette was striding by. I flagged her down and said that my knuckles were spasming (izzat a word?) and giving me lots of pain----"could it have something to do with the process I'd just gone through?", says I.....

She said "Possibly..." I then tendered one of my digits and asked her to feel the "crinkling"---well, you ALL know the rest of THAT story! Woooowee! Ain't youth GREAT!?! Guess the sweet young thing never had a foul old uncle.....

Ar-ar-ar.....

You guys, I am in tears laughing at this thread, dont put if off, I started early and at 42 have had 2 performed so far,......... not bragging or anything, ...........just fact.**) come on ..... pull my finger.

Rick Parker 03-19-2009 12:07 AM

That's hilarious LOL!!!

HI Cobra 03-19-2009 12:35 AM

I've had two of the colon scopes, was out for the first one and no drugs
or anything for the follow-up 6 weeks later - i will not do that again - they
can knock me out first and have at it. Also had three prostate biopsies and
the third one hit paydirt (cancer just getting started) so I went with the
radiation seeds and we didn't need a night light for a while. That was
over 4 years ago and the PSA count is close to nothing. Don't put the
prostate testing off either - another silent killer - but if you catch it early
life is good. Be careful out there!

PatBuckley 03-19-2009 09:43 AM

I like those too.

My Doctor, Wendy, is cute.

Fred Douglass 03-19-2009 10:40 AM

Flip,

Zeus bless ye, lad, and best of luck on the P-cancer cure! However.......aboot that colonoscopy "without drugs"-------did ya have it done in Turkey?

HI Cobra 03-20-2009 02:16 AM

Fred,
Nope. Here in Hawaii - they said I may feel some discomfort. I just
remember biting the pillow as I strangled it, and I am used to dealing
with pain. I will not ever do that again awake. The nurse said she was
watching my toes clench. I won't go near that hospital anymore either.

Bobcat 03-20-2009 11:00 AM

Flip .... no anesthetic ?? You are one brave soul . I`ve had several of those and told the doc if he hurt me , I would hurt him ! I was given the anesthetic .
I learned the hard way when I was told there was nothing to having an endsoscopy exam ( different tube down the throat , but still BIG ) ..... WRONG ! They jammed a mouthpiece in my mouth so I couldn`t shut my mouth and then it was gag city and tears streamed from my eyes . I guess there is nothing to it if you are the one doing it .

HI Cobra 03-20-2009 11:18 AM

Bobcat - I didn't know any better then.
Funny you should mention endoscopy. I learned the hard way on that one too.
I discovered I have a serious gag reflex and if they ever want to do that again
I will be sleeping - only way they can make it happen.

Fred Douglass 03-20-2009 12:47 PM

Well.....Flip......

......initially I felt bad for you, but then I went to the Gallery and saw that you had at least four or five cobras, looked healthy as hell, lived in foo keen paradise, are apparently hard-working and consequently well-off.......well.....I hope your next "upscope" IS in Turkey! So there! No, wait, I take that all back-----I'm a Republican and wish you well, long life and many more cobras! Ar-ar-ar. You are livin' the life, young man! Oh, BTW, clean out yer pool house! I'll be down next November!

Another thing to make us ALL feel better aboot this DELIGHTFUL medical process is that Bernie Madoff will be getting these done---without anesthesia, by total "amateurs" AND practically EVERY NIGHT! Yay!!!!

Dan40 03-20-2009 02:41 PM

I have to go along with Dave Berry about my first colonoscopy. The pre-ramming flush out was not a barrel of fun. But the actual procedure was just like Dave's. I went to sleep as they were getting started and woke after it was all done. [And the results were good]

All in all it was much more pleasant than the colonoscopy we are all getting now from the Government.

Dan
