Mac OS X Anti-Spyware: MacScan

Anyone have experience with MacScan ?

http://macscan.securemac.com/

From their web site:

" Protect your security and privacy with MacScan, the premier Anti-Spyware program for Mac OS X. Detect, isolate, and remove spyware as well as clean up Internet clutter. With MacScan’s Blacklisted Cookie Scan you can remove blacklisted tracking cookies without losing all your saved usernames and passwords. Keep up to date with the latest Spyware definition updates!

Since early 2002, SecureMac has been developing its proprietary anti-spyware application, MacScan. January 2006 saw the release of MacSan for OS X at MacWorld San Francisco. But in 2007, the MacScan team upped the ante at Macworld SF by releasing MacScan 2 with key features such as frequent definition updates and the ability to scan for cookies on their Cookie Blacklist. Users can now remove over 8000 known cookies for adware and malware with a single click and without losing any of their saved cookies. The Cookie Blacklist definitions, like the Spyware definitions, come in easy to download updates "

Don,I asked an Apple Software Developer and a Computer Science student (my Son :) ) about your question.....

As far as reliable, u can download it from apples website. So that means they approve. Designed for security-conscious Mac users, MacScan 2.1 does two things: It scans your hard drive for spyware and other malware that has surreptitiously slipped onto your system and it cleans up the traces left behind by Web browsing—your browser history, cache, and cookies. But the question is: Do we really need a separate application to do either? Because macs already have stuff like this built in. That's why they are so secure. But it wouldn't hurt.

392Cobra & Son:

FYI

" Apple describes SecurityCare as a "premier security service, offering unparalleled, personalized security support." Breaking out of the traditional paradigm of subscription-based security products such as antivirus software, SecurityCare is instead a full service offering that doesn't require additional software. Covered devices will be securely configured by a SecurityCare specialist to minimize the risk of a successful attack.

This includes proper user account and firewall configuration, software updates, setting up secure sharing and wireless, and locking down other system settings. It also includes proper configuration of Time Machine backups, assuming the customer has (or purchases) a Time Capsule or external hard drive "
