I think Alan Mulally is doing a great job leading Ford. But this industry is very dependent (as a discretionary industry) in that good management can still fail in a poor demand-based economy.

Hopefully at least one of the American car companies will come out of this mess in better shape and will be able to start growing again and competing with the rest of the world.
I think Ford can make a good profit without being a global player. I think a good profit can be made by just being the best player in the U.S.

The Big 2.5 has shown no success in selling expensive cars (Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo, Saab..) and even smaller success selling low-priced economy cars on a global platform.

Why don't they focus on what they are good at: Selling American cars to Americans? That is a 8M-10M unit market.

There is now a great opportunity to take market share away from Chrysler and GM owners who now face probable BK:

I think Ford will make it. Some of my friends do not agree, and they are buying all of the Ford performance parts that they can find.
