How many cobras in north america?

Dose anyone have an idea of how many cobras there might be in north america? It seems to me that I am seeing more of them all the time. Just curious.

I've no idea, but the number of Cobra's for sale is Huge conpared to a few year ago. There must be over 250 for sale on the web - in America.

I wonder what the reason is.....just impractical is my bet.

The economy. The same reason you see boats, RV's, sandrails etc...

I just watched mine leave on a trailer for Alabama- my wife bought me a lobster for dinner so i would not be said-i was still sad.
I sold mine cause i'm moving to North Carolina on the water and will buy a boat. I enjoyed 6 years of excitement that only a Cobra can give you. I sold my boat to buy the Cobra and knew one day it would buy me my boat.

Wow, Bill S. I did not realize it was that large. I believe you, but was wondering what your source on that was. I'd be interested in more detail. By mfgr, by year, etc.

I'd also be interested in that information breakdown - let's say there is 15 manufacturers of Cobras out there - that's around 3,350 each - I know that ERA is probably around #800 history to date from the posts in that forum - so what entity is (or has) really pumped out the bodies? I sort wish that they would stop.

To your "request",there are wayyyyy too many.Over 100 here in Tucson. And we aren't exactly the "Hot Rod Mecca of the Southwest".

cobra de capell 06-04-2009 09:05 AM

Well, I suppose if people want one they should have one but it's getting sort of over the top - plus there are 100's for sale - I wonder if we will end up with used Cobra's at $10,000 or less in a few years like any used car.

Actually, it doesn't make any difference to me and I don't want to sound like a VRM elitist. Just curious as to were the Cobra marketplace is going.

I don't think it's co-incidence that the MAJOR Cobra makers have branched out(GT-40s,Daytona coupes,or their own"car").Me thinks they smell a "Cobra market" saturation coming and are preparing for it.

cobra de capell 06-04-2009 10:19 AM

Good point - Cobra ownership is somewhat less special when one sees other Cobras continually while out and about. They all look great, some extraordinary, but basically the same and occasionally common. Common is not good in the kit car market or really any market when the cost is on the high end.

At one time we had 12 or 14 here in this town alone. Now I think there are 3 or 4 left. One has been setting in the garage for the past 4 years. And I never see the other two any more.

Until a few years ago i might see ONE a year! Now at car shows you see amny of them. On weekend rides it was rare not to see at least 2-3 others on the road. I know of 5-6 withn 10 miles of my house so it has taken some of the novelty out of it.

I've had mine for two years and it still seems like a novelty when I walk out in the garage and see it. :D

My guess is that there are also a number of Cobras sitting in garages that are rarely driven (I know of a few near me). I spot a Cobra from time to time in the SF and Monterey Bay Area, but I wouldn't say that I've seen a big increase in sightings.

cobra de capell 06-04-2009 05:51 PM

Well, every one of us has a Cobra for different reasons - actually, I like the fact that I have one in my garage, but really don't drive it that much. I don't show it either, but I love to go to car shows with Cobra's etc on display. I just don't see myself sitting at a car show practically all day long and dealing with all the questions, etc. Now, if it's a real show with money to be made - I'm in.
