As opinionated as this group is, I think it would be fair to say that no one here will change the mind of anyone else that has an opposing viewpoint. I would argue that if you can't stand the heat get out of the cobra forum as well. Needlessto say that after 8 years of listening to people call Bush every name in the book, this is turnabout fair play. I don't agree with the name calling as no matter how much I dislike his politics and what he is doing (quickly I might add) to take a bad situation Bush left us in and turning it into a far worse one; The office of the president still deserves our respect. (No matter how much the man in the office does to take that respected office and destroy it)

On another note, did anyone read the article on msn.com asking if CLinton caused the banking company?
Ron

I agree with you, Ron (CSX4910), and I had to constantly moderate attacks on Bush that were over the line...but we are going to tone it down a bit.

Ron,
I am on the list of those who are not fond of GW Bush (though I am not fond of Obama or Clinton either), but even when Bush was in office there were just not that many threads that started out as attacks on him or his policies. Sure, we had plenty of threads that turned into a debate (and some were pretty heated) and others that were just name-calling-fests. And during the run-up to the election we were treated to almost daily anti DNC/Obama posts many of which were just propaganda, but very few that attacked McCain or the GOP.

We've all called political figures names, but it really just seems over the top for the last few months.

And I think it is very interesting that some posters (myself included) were told by others on this forum that to disagree with Bush was unpatriotic during a time of war. Many of those same people are the ones now calling Obama names and (gasp!) disagreeing with him. We still have troops fighting overseas...

Oh, and I think that Clinton, Frank and other DNC'ers and the GOP lead Congress of the day set the trigger for a lot of this mess.

Steve...let me be clear about this: Bullsh!t.

Since I'm here damn near 24/7 and I have to read everything, please don't tell me what the threads attacking Bush said in their titles or in their posts. We cleaned many of them, and they were OTT. Me thinks you may not have found them personally offensive, but many of us did. Leave it at that.

Jamo,
I was commenting on the quantity, not the quality (or lack thereof). The vitriol level from a lot of the regulars arguing their point has been very high at times (and often OTT), and I would certainly agree that Bush/Cheney have taken some shots, some of them cheap. However, most of the politically oriented threads (and associated thread titles) are started by the same small group of people, and almost of them ardent right wingers. I personally do not like any thread title that starts off with an insult to either party.

And you did chastise me a few years ago for my calling Bush (or any president) a moron (or whatever I called him) as it is disrespectful to the office as well as the man. I actually agreed with you and have tried to refrain from any name calling to any of them (I usually just say that I am not fond of them). I would rather debate specific policies of either party or administration anyway.

Still, your comment begs the question - if a lot of the other posts were cleaned because of the negative references to the office of the President, why do we still have thread titles like Opuzzy and O'no?

Anyway, have a good weekend - I get to go meet a brand new nephew in a couple of hours.:D

Don't misinterpret me, I felt a lot safer sleeping at night about the safety of our country with Bush as Prez instead of Obama. However, Bush ignored the train wreck screaming down the track called our economy far too long. We are now doubly screwed as Obama doesn't have the first clue what to do with north Korea or Iran (first I want to reach out and be your friend and now I am telling you to watch out or we will hurt you etc) AND he has mortgaged our grandchildren and great grandchildrens future.

But hey, at least neither of them has sold the lincoln bedroom or turned the Oval office into his private shaggig room like another former Prez!

No, because corrections and edits are lower on the list of things to do than keeping things running smoothly and constantly monitoring childish rants by folks who somehow have gotten the opinion that they need to be the self-appointed bad-news-clipping service for this site.

There are nice ways to discuss politics and current events in a sensible and respectful manner in an Off-Topic forum...and there are ways to end up on the watch list by the Forum Czars.

Have it either way. Your choice. :p

I wouldn't use the word 'Czar', you might be accused of being appointed by the President:3DSMILE:

Yup, you have refrained from such remarks (as I do) and I do indeed respect you for that. I prefer the issues be argued on point as well. Having said that, I think that humor...when it is indeed funny and not simply used as a label for boring catch phrases...is an essential tool for keeping a good conversation going. You may be right about the sheer number of the types of threads directed at Obama due to the more prevelant conservative viewpoint around here, but there were periods of time when remarks about Bush pushed the limits...most asspecially diuring the last mid-term elections and during the last presidential runup.

However, as Ron assplained, it gets a bit tedious cleaning up threads. Personally, I prefer to send folks to the woodshed. One button does the job. KISS.

Congrats on the new little buddy. I just lost a good pillow fight to my two year old grandson.

The humour is great - some of the posts/cartoons are bloody hysterical! And I fully understand and expect that the anti-DNC posts will be more numerous simply because of the makeup of the forum. The problem is that some folks just don't understand that the same joke over and over stops being funny around the 7th time.

The constant copy/paste hack jobs posing as news are also getting tedious (though the Scott Ott ones are usually pretty good), and I especially have a problem with the ones that do not properly credit their sources. I disagree with most of what Obama and Congress are doing, but making up new crap to complain about just seems counterproductive.

The new little buddy is pretty cool. I got 'stuck' entertaining his older brother (almost 4). I got him 'Cars' for his 2nd birthday and he took to it in ways that his dad hates me for. He also has quite a collection of diecasts - and he always saves the Corvettes, Cobras, and Ferraris for me to play with. And he knows the difference between them! He can also identify Audis and BMWs by what the circles look like.

I bought him a couple of those colour shifting Hot Wheels that change depending on the temp (you dunk them in a bowl of hot or cold water) - big hit, and highly recommended, but be prepared for everything to get wet!

Can you believe this. The U.S. is installing an anti missile battery in the Hawaiian Islands to shoot the NK missile down if it gets close to them and this inbred imbecile has declared that an attack on NK. The missile has to pass over Japan. Why not shoot it down there? Russia has already told him bluntly that any missile he fires that goes over any of their territory will be shot down. Also they are now laying claim to the Sea of Japan. This guy wants war.

Ron

Personally, I'm all for sending Howard Stern to N. Korea...:JEKYLHYDE:D

Finally, something I agree with Obama on. (send Jane too)
