My uncle got a ticket for that once many years ago.
It was not his primary drive though, that was paved. He had a small utility trailer in the back yard that was parked on the grass. He had to have a paving contractor pave a six foot long space for the trailer. What a load of crap.
I tell you it is not about "Protecting and Serving" anymore, it is ALL Income generation.

So this is about parking your car in the grass?
I for one am against government overreaching... but many municipalities enact these ordinances when HOAs are not possible or are simply non-existant. It can go too far. But I think the original intent was to keep yards from turning in junkyards. Having said this, HOAs can be better at this since they will normally issue a warning that you have broken one of the covanents. Municipalities, OTOH, are in it for the money. And so they scour their "Book of Rules" looking for ways to increase revenue. All the citizens have to do is vote the bums out.

I think the law(s) were written to stop people from parking in their own front yards and working on their cars. For example like a shad-tree mechanic.
But since the cities need money they are looking at everything to generate more income.
Yes, I think it was to stop people from parking in the grass.

Although people are getting tickets for parking in their own gravel driveways, since I believe the ordinance specifies paved driveways.......total BS.

Oh, I agree, it is total BS. This is what happens when folks go to government to solve their problems. Like health care. |

Here they have carried it a step farther except for a select few. If you park a motor home or trailer in your back yard or in back of your property, you are supposed to have a 6" high wood fence so the neighbors can't see it and be offended. I think the original idea was as mentioned above to keep the back yard junk yards down but then it morphed into a total farce. Now they won't enforce it much because they don't want to upset the dopers and if they enforce it against an honest person they face lawsuits. This was all documented on video and presented to the city and police chief.

I had a situation like this in the past in OKC. The city ordinance says you can not have a vehicle parked on an unimproved surface. The day the code enforcement guy came to my house because one of my neighbors complained that i had an old VW bug in my backyard that i was tearing apart as a donor to build a sand rail. he gave me the notice and told me I had 10 days to remove it because it is not allowed. i told him it was on a 18' x 6' concrete pad aka IMPROVED surface. then his version of the rule changed and he said you aren't allowed to have ANY vehicles in your back yard. As he turned around to walk away he noticed that the truck I was putting a stereo in for a buddy had 2 tires in the grass so I didn't have to stand out in the 110 degree sun on the hot concrete. he turned and said it had to be moved. I said "Yes sir, sure thing!" he left and I moved the truck.... this time parking it so that all 4 wheels were in teh grass and the exhaust was rumbling right in said neighbors windows. Finished what i was doing and was done with it.
These sorts of things are usually at the complaint of a neighbor.

That is BS and nothing more than Revenue Generation. The Mayor actually got on my nerves in the interview, refusing to answer questions that directly questioned motives. He looked angry that anyone would dare question him. That is definitely not the type of mayor I would want.

The young guy that has lived next door to me for the past 6 or 7 years has a pile of old lumber and two sheds that the roofs have caved in on and all that is holding them up is the fence. A rattlesnake breeding place among other rodents. I have gone to the city repeatedly about making him clean that mess up and their first excuse was they couldn't see it from the street. I had the building inspector come over and walked out in the street and you can easily see that mess. Next excuse was the city doesn't have the money to enforce him cleaning it up. How dam much does a citation to clean up a mess like that cost them to write. My next step is going to be to call the County Health department as I would like that junk gone. I have already killed 3 small rattlesnakes this Summer from over there. So they just selectively enforce those laws around here as they do everything else.

In Escondido, Ca. they are enforcing a new law that states that you can no longer park more than two vehicles anywhere in front of or around your house.
Really ticked off the Mexican population that were parking up to nine vehicles in front of several homes in the area. Had them parked on the lawn, driveway, side yard and in front of the house.

Ron61........dont admit to killing anything they might send the animal cops after you...BAD BOYS, BAD BOYS, .........whats you gonna do.........when they come for you......when i lived in Calif. you couldent even park on the grass to wash your car ,if you did you got a ticket for parking on the grass and one for wasting water.

There is a city around here with an ordinance that states you cannot park anything in your driveway. It has to be in a garage or an out-of-town visitor.
If you don't like it, don't move there.

The HOA here has that you can't park in the street for more than 24 consecutive hours. It is not being enforced right now but many people complain about it.
Good thing we live in the County.

apparently, and i heard this 2nd hand, is that particular city has adopted a parking permit policy, which you have to purchase of course, and this is the way they strong arm funds out of homeowners.

A friend of mine had his truck parked along side his house. Much like the guy in the video, along comes some yahoo from the city and gives him a ticket for parking his vehicle on the dirt. He went round and round with the city who told him if the vehicle was parked on concrete they would leave him alone but it had to be done in three weeks or he would face some sort of fine. So, he poured four 2 foot by 2 foot pads. One for each tire. Three weeks later when the city came back he said you could tell that city guy was pissed because he knew he had been beat.
