TNT's Chicagoland Coverage

First let me say, I love NASCAR, but the race yesterday at Chicagoland was the most boring 4 hours of my life. :(

It seemed like it was 3.5 hours of commercials and .5 hours of racing. Next the MC's especially Kyle Petty drove me nuts with his "Yamering about nothing". Everytime something happened on the track that was interesting, they switched to commercial and when they returned "the mindless MC's" were in the middle of a conversation that only they knew about.
They didn't follow the race, screwed up on the pit stop coverage and continued to offer up stupid remarks. I think Kyle Petty should go back to soimething he's qualified to do like....comb that dumb looking pony tail he wears.

Thankfully that was the end of TNT's 6 race coverage for NASCAR...maybe next week it will be better. I guess it's still better just to go to the races whenever you can

Bill,

I couldn't agree more. Even when they showed a little of the race the talking mouths in the booth didn't know who was where and they would show cars racing for 20th and back instead of the lead. Even the end of the race stunk. I wish they would just show the race and do away with all of the BS from the know it alls in the booths and on pit lane.

IMHO, it's the second most boring track with the first one being Fontucky. I stopped going to the Fontucky race because it was single file fuel mileage racing. Lots of strategy, but not fun to watch...

We allways liked FOX's coverage the best. My schedual indicates it's next going to be broadcast on ESPN HD untill September 12th. Then It will go to ABC HD untill November 22nd. You are right about the banter. NASCAR is big money and they, like everyone else, are in a money crunch. Look at the team owner mergers, drivers moving around from to car owner to car owner and the changing sponsors and resulting paint jobs (actually decals) and uniform changes from race to race. They were in an exspansion mode untill last year. Grandstands were full. You'll nowadays notice a lot of empty seats. Last year was our first year we could go to Bristol Tenn. We had to apply, way early in the year, for a lottery to be able to buy season tickets. They are now advertizing tickets available on TV.

NASCAR needs help and Kyle Petty isn't the solution to the problem. They need to do away with the 4 car teams, the fuel mileage raceing, the lucky dog,and take the pit crews out of the race(if you come under yellow, you go back on the track in the same position you were in)and toss the import wing and put the old spoiler back on and let the drivers settle it on the track..............

I totally agree with the race on to and off of pit road. Unless you go a lap down, you go out in the same place. How many more pit crew members have to be hurt or killed before they realize this.

But then we have to remember, this isn't real racing. It's a traveling entertainment show.

But with all of the commercials and yellow flag laps, it is fast losing its entertainment value too. I would like to see the so called Lucky Dog thing did away with and the same for the Yellow Flag pit stops. Come out the same position you went in and that would do away with some of the danger especially on the smaller pit areas. I went to sleep and missed most of this last race.

Don't get me srarted on restrictor plate raceing........put a 2 bbl carb. on if you want to slow them down,or use a 8.1 compression or a small cam or do away with the big tracks, those are the races that put you to sleep and add 2 more road courses.......do something.......please..... do something......

I think that an alternative to the present pitting situation would be to allow a maximum of "X" number of yellow flag pit stops per car, per race. I think that it absolute stupidity that cars come in for 4 "fresh" tires when the tires they now have on only have a hand full of laps on them.

Another alternative would be to have only 1 or maybe 2 laps under caution instead of the 5 or 10 laps now to remove a piece of debris from the track. You want to pit under the yellow, go right ahead but the race may very well be back under green before you are finished.

Unfortunately, they will not do any of these things because they have to run so many commercials on TV. Lets face it guys, this is not a race, it is a show that happens to include a race.

Wayne
