The 'Cap And Tax' Dead End (Palin WaPo Op-Ed)
There is no shortage of threats to our economy. America's unemployment rate recently hit its highest mark in more than 25 years and is expected to continue climbing. Worries are widespread that even when the economy finally rebounds, the recovery won't bring jobs. Our nation's debt is unsustainable, and the federal government's reach into the private sector is unprecedented.
Unfortunately, many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges. So, at risk of disappointing the chattering class, let me make clear what is foremost on my mind and where my focus will be: I am deeply concerned about President Obama's cap-and-trade energy plan, and I believe it is an enormous threat to our economy. It would undermine our recovery over the short term and would inflict permanent damage. Snip......http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...071302852.html Best line in her op-ed: “The ironic beauty in this plan? Soon, even the most ardent liberal will understand supply-side economics.” |
:(
Well once again we beat the rest of the country. As of July 1st, our electric rates increased by almost 60% and then they added a 2.7% surcharge to that. Also increasing by the same percent was our water and sewer charges, with the water having a $3 surcharge and the sewer having a $5 surcharge. They put a sheet in my last bill with these increases laid out for the next 4 years on July 1st. A lot of people around here have been kicked out of their homes already because they couldn't pay the utility bill and now they come up with this. And none of the money is used for anything but to increase the local politicians pay and perks. Ron  |
Just another plan by the new admistration that makes no sense to me at all and will probably fail like the rest of the policies they rushed into. People wanted "change" and buddy boy, thats what we're all getting.
The only light at the end of the tunnel for me is that I truly believe the dems & far left wingers are digging they're own graves, remember, congressional elections are not too far away. The American people will not put up with this too much longer. Those people that don't see whats happening now, will begin to see the path this adminstratin is taking this country down when it begins to directly effect them & their families quality of life. |
Great programs,
Just read an article in the local paper about how confusing the mortgage adjustment programs are. Most simply have no clue. But the liberal press seemed to be happy that one person in Pt. St. Lucie got her troubled mortgage redone without a problem. She has been in her house for 11 years, her monthly payment was $2000.00. No idea how far in arrears she is/was. But the Government program saved her bacon. Her payment has been reduced to $1000.00 per month and her 15 year mortgage has been extended to 30 years. Original= $2000X12X15=$360000.-11 years=bal. $96000. New = $1000X12X19=$228000.+ 11 tears paid,$264000.=total$492000. Present market value of the house? Probably under $250000. No mention of the interest rates on either mortgage, great reporting! We are from the Government and we are here to help you. |
Dan, Dan!
Don't try to confuse them with facts! They like it much better when they get to believe the mantra. :D And lets not forget; she is an Obama success story! She works minimum wage and lives in a $500,000 house! |
The Economy Is Even Worse Than You Think
From the Wall Street Journal:
"Can we find comfort in the fact that employment has long been considered a lagging indicator? It is conventionally seen as having limited predictive power since employment reflects decisions taken earlier in the business cycle. But today is different. Unemployment has doubled to 9.5% from 4.8% in only 16 months, a rate so fast it may influence future economic behavior and outlook." "It may have made him unpopular in parts of the Obama administration, but Vice President Joe Biden was right when he said a week ago that the administration misread how bad the economy was and how effective the stimulus would be. It was supposed to be about jobs but it wasn't. The Recovery Act was a single piece of legislation but it included thousands of funding schemes for tens of thousands of projects, and those programs are stuck in the bureaucracy as the government releases the funds with typical inefficiency.":( http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124753066246235811.html |

Well the liberals have their Keynesian nirvana, they are spending trillions in their grand experiment. They own this, they have their control environment. No nagging Republican Congress or pesky ex-actor President. They have all the socialist Ivy league intelligentsia running things, with their Czars and commissions. The hippies have what they want, they run things on almost every level with the exception of what Maureen Dowd calls, “The Southern Twang States”. Well now they say 13% unemployment and economic malaise. My prediction of a 45% approval rating by election day 2010 maybe kinda high.
“Geitner says the recession will be over in months” He is right. In a few months it will be a DEPRESSION. |
Ron's rate increaser
Ron,
In your brief you are discussing the electric rate increase. Are you in the PG&E service area? Is that a local increase or across the board? Please give me more information. BTW, I bought a home across the street from my residence. I paid cash for the good deal and my son's and I did all the repairs. My son applied for a loan for just the cost of the home, (purchase price + repair costs, no labor or profit). That was four months ago. He meets lending criteria, income level, & appraisal level but cannot get a loan. Underwriters keep barfing it up. Loan amount is only a hundred grand. House payment is only 1/2 the amount of his former rent. What's wrong here? Can a member help clear up what we are doing wrong? Thanks Thanks Ron |
:(
Ron, No I have nothing to do with PG&E. The only thing they have in this town is the natural gas. When the three small towns incorporated they formed their own power and water district. SLMUD. Shasta Lake Municipal Utilities District and signed their contracts for water with the McConnell Foundation. The electricity we get straight from the dam and get from the Federal Govt. as they own and run that. But our sewer system and the old water lines do need replacing, I just don't think they will use the money for that. If they had used what they have taken in over the years and did some maintenance, this would not be necessary, and since many in this town are old and retired I fear there are going to be a bunch more homeless when they get these new rates in. Especially after the 4th year of them. The increase is just for the City of Shasta Lake. Redding has their own problems and lawsuits going right now and they have nothing to do with us. Ron :( |

Isn't the idea behind Cap n Trade to make us more energy efficient and to improve the environment?
Is that correct? Or not? IF that is the intent, then WHY the capntrade? Every carbon fuel has been analyzed long ago. Bunker oil, fuel oil, kerosene, gasoline, whatever. Each is known to produce so much carbon emission when burned. So why not just tax the fuel according to its output? No way around it for the big emitters and that is the only thing that will make them get cleaner. Tax the fuel just like they tax gasoline at the pump now. Either way, WE will pay the tax. That's always true. But a straight tax does not need thousands of pages of rules [AND LOOPHOLES] and another 75000[to start]Government worker bureaucracy. But the straight tax does not establish control over the energy industry either. The REAL idea behind Cap 'n' Trade!! |
I hope that you are not promoting more taxing of fuel directly. We will be paying the tax indirectly if that happens. With that said, it would be a better idea versus cap and trade with, as you noted, the gap between cap and trade producing thousands of jobs and profit for those that actually trade.
Bottonline - it's all BS and not well thought out. |

I'm not promoting more taxes on anything!!!!!!!!!! EVAH!!!!! Just pointing out that IF the stated goals were NOT just another lie, there IS a simple and uncomplicated way to accomplish the STATED goal. But the stated goal is just another obummer lying attempt to wrest control from our Republic. All the talk by Democraps to look back and prosecute Bush officials for what they did. When the obummer is voted out of office, OR impeached out of office. He should be arrested and tried for TREASON and spend the rest of his unnatural life in solitary. Strong opinion to follow!:D |
I was hoping that was the case. Actually, I would not mind paying a few cents more per gallon of gas if someone could be trusted to use the funds to develop alternative energy sources and at the same time allow the oil companies to drill in Alaska and off-shore, etc. while alternative sources are discovered.
Someone on another site posted - The Energy Department was created in the 1970's with the only purpose: reduce America's dependence on foreign oil. Well, that dependence has gone up over the years (big time), but the Energy Department of the Federal Government now has 16,000 employees and 100,000 contract employees. I’ve not verified the body count, but WTF? |
