I believe that was what Bill was referring to. Except the normal German never had a car until after Hitler came into power and he could have cared less about them being drunk.
I would like to see drunk drivers off the road, but this could be interpreted as another freedom taken away, except driving is a privilege and not a guaranteed freedom. Crap, I wish they would make the new cars so a cell phone won't work in them if the motor is running. People got by and managed to live without a cell phone in their ear all of the time before they came along.

Ok, now you can all flame away at me for disliking your toys being used while driving.

I have to design in the opposite direction. I have to make sure all the junk works as noise free as possible within budget.

But I know what you mean Ron.

I didn't catch the article with Germany. I thought it was relative to the Hitler pictures posted a short while ago.

I would be more than happy to see every new motor vehicle (2,3 or 4 wheels) sold & registered in the U.S to have such a device required. I would like it to even be required to be operational as part of the yearly State Inspections.

It won't fly, remember 1974 and the seat belt interlocks?

Couple people got killed cause their car wouldn't start and the families sued the government. The Govenment then made the car mfgs. recall and disable it in every vehicle.

Just a question and not to start any arguments, but how did people get killed because their car wouldn't start? Had they stopped and disconnected the seat belts for some reason? Or did the Interlock just fail. I could see that if they were driving and suddenly the car shut off, but if they were stopped it would seem to indicate they had stopped intentionally and should have been out of the way of traffic.

Sorry, should have said "supposidly"...

I can tell you the cars were recalled and the '75 models didn't have them. Another problem with the system was that the passenger seat had a weight sensor and if kicked off by placing a object in the seat next to you, car wouldn't start.

Thanks Ronbo. I knew they were recalled and the part about the passenger seat but I had just never heard if anyone being killed because of it and was wondering how they accomplished that. My Mother had a 75 and that passenger seat thing was a pain until they did away with it.

I would think the chance of something like this happening is between zip & nada.Less Government is a better Government.

I can just see someone hitting the mouthwash before heading out to work -No Start.:LOL:

I just have no problem with any grief that someone that drinks and drives finds themselves as a result drinking.

I would think a more logical approch would be a simple logging system (easy with todays on-boards) once a month the guy has to stop by the DMV to have the logs downloaded.

Breathalizer and a photo should meet any legal requirements.;)

However this .08% BAL crap is BS in my book, a recent study found people texting to be 10 times more dangerous than someone legally impaired. I personally have more "encounters" with idiots yaking on cell phones than any other threat.

Ronbo,

I believe that cell phones and texting have replaced DUI stupidity in this area. The last report that I saw said Cell Phones and Texting were the # 1 cause of wrecks, and that includes those in the parking lots of which we seem to have a great deal of.
