I painted my car yesterday!
I really like the color "Sapphire Blue". I have a few more faults than I had hoped that need to be polished out, but it's great to have made some real progress.

Dual roll bars? |
Rollbars
Thanks! Yes, my buddy who teaches a driving school told me they would want equal protection for student and instructor for me to use my car on track days.
Track Guys And it makes my wife happy too because she'll be sitting over there most of the time. ERA said they had done it for other customers. http://www.chuckbrandt.com/rollbars.jpg Chuck |

%/ Looks really good. I selected the 'Guardsman Blue' and my car is in the paint shop now being done after travelling nearly 11,000 m in white gel coat since last November. Wish I had the time and the knowledge to do it myself. Your colour is at 'first look' similiar to the blue I was looking at prior to seeing the old Guardsman blue colour. Cheers Bernie |
Painting it myself
Hi Bernie,
I'm not really all that knowledgeable or skillful. I mess up a lot! But I enjoy the learning experience and figure I can fix the enevitable scratches myself then too. It definitely isn't for everyone, it was a lot of work and not really that much fun, I'd rather be building motors :) Thanks, Chuck |
Wow!!
Chuck,
That look's great. I painted this weekend too!! The south side of my house. Can't wait to see your Cobra on the road. How is the 390 coming ?? Best, BC :D |
Well it sure looks good Chuck and you can say
"...I painted it myself" %/ Look forward to watching the progress. Cheers Bernie |
Excellent Job Chuck. I like the aluminium work you have done also. I painted mine and I know how much work it is to do. I will probably pull my body off in a year or so and re-paint it again. But first I want to play with it some more and get a few more gravel chips at the track.

%/ Just saw you come on here. How are you doing 'mate'. Don't want to hi - jack Chucks "Thread" here but cannot make the 'Run N Gun' again this year. Will try to get over for 'DVSF' in Ohio next June. :3DSMILE: Take care now Cheers Bernie |
390 is waiting patiently.
Wickedfast -
The 390 is the next project after the paint is done. You've seen my garage! I can't have the "paint booth configuration" and the "engine building configuration" active at the same time! I actually can't wait to dig into the 390 build. First step is to final clean the block that Gessford did for me. Then check the clearances on the crank and rods. Then assuming all is well with the clearances take everything over to K&M for a balance job. Then start putting it together, everything else should be ready to go. Good luck with the house painting :) Chuck |
Gessford's Paint stripper and degreaser - Georgia Moon
Hey Chuck
Ask George Gessford to send you over some of that "Georgia Moon" he was pouring into me at the last 'Run N Gun'. It will strip the block, paint and all. :p Wicked Fast  It will strip the paint of the north side of the house prior to you painting that side. Cheers - have fun guys Bernie:p |
An Aussie invader
Chuck, I just found my way onto your web site. Now registered as Bernie Knight:p Nothings sacred or protected anymore  Cheers Bernie |
You're Welcome Bernie
Welcome Bernie!
I honestly have never met an Aussie I didn't like! Chuck |
Excellent! I have dual black roll bars.

Thanks for the welcome
Thanks Chuck for the welcome.
%/ I have your email. I decided on Guardsman Blue with GM white stripes. A yellow stripe over the guard. I will "Post" some photos on my gallery once progress is made. The white Gel coat was disguised by running the stripes over the body in flat black KH one afternoon over a few beers. I was comfortable with this, and as I said, I drove it over 10,000m in six months this way **) This gave me time to swap colours in my head a few times. I "Posted" asking for photos or references to the Guardsman Blue colour and had a few replies with photos. PPG was given as the reference point and we have done some tests. Looks great. I have attempted to replicate the race theme and will spend the next few weeks completing nose cone aluminium and trunk aluminium. Again will "Post" some photos in the gallery. Thanks for the informative site. Take care Cheers Bernie :p PS - Chuck how much paint ended up over the house and the neighbours houses??? |
