Donor Cars
All -
I have been a non-cobra owning member of MACC for a couple of years, but now it's my time! I am looking for any leads on donor cars. Richard at North Racecars is definitely helping, I would have already made several errors without him, but I don't want to leave any stones unturned. Thanks in advance for any advice and/or leads, |
I have built three FFR Cobras. The first one that I built I used all donor parts, only problem I had was a bad tranny. The second one was a 50% donor and 50% new , no problems. The third one is all new , it just helps me sleep better knowing everything is all new. Ofcourse I had to spend many more hours looking for specific nuts and bolts and misc. parts that I would of had if I went the donor route. What company are you going to buy from?

Donor Cars
Jeff thanks for the reply. I'm planning on a FFR. Richard did talk to me about crate motors and the possibility of using new VS donor parts. I really like the idea of tearing apart a donor. This is my first project of this type, and I can't help but feel that the tear-down would be helpful in knowledge building, besides tearing a car apart on purpose sound therapeutic. I may regret the decision once I get into the project but too many guys have already blazed the trail and the guys in MACC are a great knowledge base.

Just a final thought. Richard found a 1989 5.0 convertible for me and I tore it down in a couple of months. My engine and transmission are being worked on now and my kit from FFR should arrrive the first or second week of October.
For me the experience of tearing down the donor was great. I've had a chance to talk to some great people and learned a ton. For a car neophyte I would recommend it. Thanks, Jim |
How about getting out the old camera, taking a heap of pictures of the build and post them step by step here to help us that are yet to embark on such a build. Always great to look at what others are doing along the way. Hope it continues to be fun all the way though, even with the occasional sanfu and torn up knuckles.
