Can anyone here give me current MA. info on registering and acquiring tags for a replica vehicle such as a Cobra replica?

Thanks!

Neal,

I first went to the State Police for a VIN number. I had to bring every single receipt, including a couple of the title from the car that the motor came from. It took me three trips to get the VIN. Next, I had to get a price evaluation on the car. Then had to take it all to the insurance company and then to the registry. It was registered as a 1998 Shelby Cobra Replica. Others have had easier times.

Thanks Henry, I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I have a friend in Mass who is contemplating a replica build or purchase and this info will be helpful to him.

MA Reg.

Make sure that when you get the VIN that it says 1966 replica of a Cobra. The Year block should read 1966 and the Model 1998
or whatever. Otherwise you will spend a minimum of 10 hours chasing your tail around in order to get the car to pass whatever year of make the car is for inspection purposes. DEP is a real problem here.

The fundamental problem is that DEP is setting the standard for whatever year the car is manufactured, i.e. 1998. The car is
registered with the Mass VIN reflecting the completion and the insurance agent puts that in as the year. Maker sure the RMV-1
form shows 1966 as the year and the model is a 1998 and everything should go fine.

Been there and done that

Get someone to register it in Fla. Cost about $75.00 Pay less sale tax (they have a lower rate) usally it can be done without taking the car for inspection, wait 6 mos( you will have Fla. Plates to drive on) and the Registry of Motor Vehicles of Mass. should be no problem with a transfer.

Remeber, I didn't tell you that! :JEKYLHYDE

I doubt that this method will fly. Unless you have the correct amount of letters and numbers in the VIN it will probably set off a red flag

I often fly into Nantucket from Mansfield, MA
