transport via local ferry
I am finally taking delivery of my car at the Snakepit next week. I'd like to avoid the Friday rush hour traffic near the city. Have any of you guys ever taken the Bridgeport/Port Jefferson ferry back to New England?

I have done the ferry route going out to HRE. You can get a schedule online. At least when I went they took good care to give me a fair amount of room between mine and the next car. Just be careful getting on and off because of the low ground clearance of your car. I can't give you directions without referring to a map but it was no problem finding the way. Have fun.

Ground clearance is definetly a concern, I've taken the ferry a couple of times to check out progress on the car. My biggest concern is salt, will the staff on the ferry give extra consideration in placement of the car to avoid getting it wet if the Sound is rough?

Rick:
Take the ferry. I have had my SPF on it many times. They always treat me well. There is no way you want to subject your baby to I95 in NY. It will cost you about $45 dollars, but it's worth it. The boats are dry, even on windy days. The best part is reverb of the exhaust. Before you get to Bridgeport give me call on your cell, I work across the street from the dock. I'd love to see it. I'm at 203-338-3415. Bob |
I will give you a call after I get on the boat some time in the afternoon April 4th

Hey Rick:
Did you get that car yet? Bob |
Bob,
I picked up the car Friday afternoon and made the 4:45 ferry to Bridgeport. I did try to call you, but I had spent most of the day on the phone and the battery gave out. I put 325 miles on the car as I detoured to Springfield before heading to the Cape. I was smiling the whole way. Rick |
