Front License Plate: CT

Response received when inquiring on the need for a front license plate:

"Both plates required. Since you do not have front plate, I suggest you go
to DMV with the one plate, registration and insurance card, pay $16.00 and
walk out with two plates with different numbers. Otherwise you could get
ticketed for $60.00 "

The FinishLine front license plate bracket does not fit the Classic Roadsters Cobra, bolts attaching the jack points are spaced further apart vertically than the bolt holes in the license plate bracket. Is anyone aware of any other purchased alternative?

Don,
Please let me know what you come up with for your CR. I haven't seen a Cobra or very many hot rods with front plates (even newer Vetts don't use them), but I'm sure with the way things are going out here in California, the cops will be nailing us to make their new money raising ticket quotas. I'm not disrespecting the local "gendarmes", as my brother just retired from the SFPD.

Don:
Most of the regular cars in Connecticut don't have a front plate. Just throw the front one in the trunk like the rest of us do.

Same in Texas.....

A couple of weeks ago a State Trooper pulled me over in my SUV. I knew I was not speeding. He chased me down because I had not front bumper.

As he was giving me the warning ticket, I noticed that about 1 out of every five or six vehicles in the heavy oncoming traffic had no front plates.

Just before that, my sister-in-law had the same experience in a different area.

It is the law here, but they have never enforced it before, hope they don't start, but I think they are trying to warm us all up to it.

Bob......in North Central and North East CT the law on front license plates is now being enforced within Tolland County. Most recently when seat belt check points have been set up, tickets were issued for no front license plate.

Up to now, my front plate was displayed under the floor mat of the front seat.

At $60 per ticket, the " extra Revenue "

Since the state is dead broke everything is about money. The Governor and Legislature have raised the income tax, the sales tax and local taxes, as well as considering putting the tolls back on I95 and the Merritt. This "click it or ticket" campaign is not about your safety, it's about taking your money. There is not a cop in this state that wears a seat belt (actually the police in Orange wear theirs, but I don't know of any other towns that do).

It was not that many years ago that the wizards in Hartford told us to remove the front plate! Now they're charging you for not having one. The boys in Hartford would legalize child pornography if there was a buck to be made.

Don,
I purchased a front plate bracket from Mikes Custom Cobra Parts. It bracket attaches between the marker light and the body. It was $25 when I bought mine. It.s a pretty nice bracket if you NEED to display your front plate. I'm in Mass and were supposed to have both plates, I figure I'll just display it and eliminate getting hasseled about it. The web site is Katam25@mediaone.net

plates

As a recent new Cobra owner in Ct. (7-4-03) the inspectors at Dmv who where actually very helpful informed me that this car would be a target for cops and suggested I make sure I had 2
plates. I ended up having it attached in between the opening in the grill radiator area and making it so it can swing free. At least its there and won't interfer with cooling. I do agree with Bob that the state is doing everything it can to increase tax dollars. By the time i finished registering my car, they had taxed and found ever fee they could. I even had to pay emmision fee's on a non exsistint progam and a car that has no emissions.
