Movin on up....
We're giving serious thought to moving to southern NH. (Keene/Marlborough area) We have lots of family there since 1972 and I've always wanted to move there. I've definetly had enough of Long Island. I'm curious what Cobra life is like up there during the warm months. Will it be hard to register & inspect my cobra. It's registered as a 1965 Ford and gets a 'safety only' inspection here on LI. I remember back in 72 my cousin having to sell his '68 390 MustangGT because the police gave him a really hard time with his car. It wasn't all that radical- cherrybomb mufflers(remember them?) & 60series rear tires were their pet peeves. I wonder what they would think of my car with the loud sidepipes. I know I'm talking about 30+ years ago but my cousin is still hurtin over his loss! And of all things to replace his GT with... a brand new 1973 Pinto....

Your summers are about to get a lot shorter! The sky will get gray in October and stay that way until May. There will be snow on the ground for a lot of the year. The winter months will be far colder than they are on the island. When it does get warm there will be mud everywhere. Most of the roads will be bumpy and sandy. There will be few cruise nights if any at all. It's the perfect place for a Cobra!

I have no clue how hard it is to register a Cobra up here, but I have an inspection place for you:-). I have not yet owned a Cobra, but I used to spend a lot of time in Keene and I can say the Keene/Marlborough area is to me, absolute happiness. Plus the college girls.................:-)
Also - if you move up, may I have a cruise in your Cobra ? Maybe I could help you in making a Cobra rally in NH. |
Winter weather isn't really an issue for me. I'm a cold weather enthusiast just as well. (snowmobile/quad & 20 acres to do it on) I also have two 4x4 trucks purposebuilt for off-road excursions. I spent almost every summer there since the early 70s & that whole southern stretch of NH is beautiful. I'm just wondering what to expect with registering & inspecting my Cobra.

I think June July August and September and October will be fine months for you to drive the Cobra in NH. However, June could have some black fly activity which will make for interesting swatting.
The roads up there can be wonderful to drive, especially in the summer and fall. Half the fun will be finding some new routes to drive on your cruises. As for weather, I have pretty much never spent a weekend in Vt or NH without it raining at some time, this is especially true in the mountain areas. Thus I would imagine that your cruising opportunities in the Cobra will be fewer but of higher quality and without the Long Island congestion. Good Luck. |

Come on up! Registration is not a big deal. Where you allready have a title you simply go to the town cleark and write a couple of checks. (1 for the town & 1 for the state.) They'll give you plates and off you go. This will not be much money as the fees are based on the cars origional value which is then aged. Weight also is a factor. Inspection will be OK. Several of us can recomend a good place to get it done. Just be sure the guy is OK with inspecting this type of car. I go to a guy who gives me a through and honest safety review but will take my word for it when I say I've check the brake pads ect. We had an emisions law back in the 80's but none now. Side pipes are legal. There are noise laws of course, but like most places if you're not being a jerk the cops will not bother you. As you know there are lots of great Cobra roads in that part of the state. I'll be at the Upstates Cobra event at Lake George NY in July. Hope you can make it so we can meet. |

Sorry I missed your post. It's looking like April/May for the initial move. Probably take a bit longer for us to be permanent residents. We are buying the house from family & the "dreamhouse on the lake" they are building may take a bit longer to finish. When I eventually do get there I'll have to link up with ya so you can sit me down & help free me of all my bad NY habits.:LOL:
