Ct Emissons Program
Here we go again! The latest emissions testing mess sure doesen't give a person much faith that the program works.
This program should have been terminated when the first program was shut down. It won't happen however because our political officials have no backbone. What's worse is that so many service staions and other repair facilities have invested so much money that they don't want to stop the program even though they are having problems. The number of old cars on the road is decreasing and more cars with latest emissions equipment are taking their place. It's all about money and no guts to tell the feds to go to @#$$##%. By the way even the Washington DC area is starting to question the whole thing. |
I have 4 cars in the family and have not received any "come and get tested" letters yet. A puzzlement. I did get a card in the mail prior to Xmas which said, wait for a "come and get tested" letter but then it was addressed to occupant at my home address.
I am not looking forward to having the 428 tested. I found a testing site that has a bunch of gear heads working there, I hope they can accomodate my car and treat the engine as a 1966 428 which it is. BTW, RENEW1, I do not have you in the NE Cobra Enthusiats email list do I? |
What bugs me the most about the latest emissions test problems is the fact they may have created grief for several thousand people in our state. The other thing is the fact the state has set a requirement for what they want in failure rates. Before I retired I worked at UTC in fuel cells and worked with gas chromatagraph testing every day. I don't think the general public understands how sensitive the test equipment is or the software that is involved in accurate hydrocarbon analysis.

Since my SPF is registered as a 2000 the boys at emissions tell me all they have to do is plug into my computer. How much fun is that going to be? I can't wait to see where it is!

Boys, check with your favorite test facility. As of Monday they have changed the requirements for composit vehicle testing. Ct is somewhat unique in that we use the inspection year as the year of the vehicle, not the parts origin. Basically, the specs have been loosened considerably (does it run on all eight?) and all you need to do is a 2 stage idle/tailpipe test.
As for the glitch in the software, it is just that, a small error in code that uses the wrong factor in some test calculations. Agbar found it, not the state, reported it and have taken a very aggressive approach to reimbursment to the affected people. Now Agbar isn't perfect, but all these political hacks blowing steam are just making noise in an election year. I was told the state gets almost $80,000 per car that passes the testing from the Feds. So you want to just drop the program? Well don't scream about your taxes if they do. |
