Cruise to Lime Rock - Saturday, 6-12-04?
This Saturday is predicted to be sunny and dry as of right now (Wednesday, 8:00pm). Is anyone out there interested in a cruise to Lime Rock via some nice smooth, curvey, unobstructed roads? The Sports Car Driving Association from Essex has the track for the day so we should be able to drive right in. We could drive up, have lunch, watch our fellow gear heads go round and round, and enjoy a fun ride back. Any takers?
I would leave mid morning and take Route 8 to Thomaston, 254 to Litchfield and north on 63 to LRP. It's a beautiful ride with lots of turns and elevation. Remember, the sunsets get earlier in 2 weeks! Art, are you available, I know Stu is working. Let me know, Bobhttp://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...eRockMay04.jpg Lime Rock, May 04, 3rd Place, Skip Barber Racing |
Hi Bob!
Yes I would be game to go for the ride on Saturday! Sounds swell. I will have to be back home by 4 PM or so as we have live theater tickets for a play so I may have to beg out by 3 in the afternoon. I shall check with my better half and see what "our" plans are for Saturday. As you know, ahem.... "my" plans and "our" plans can sometimes become unzippered. Half Full is running well. I was at the Stratford Cruise night on Tuesday. Two really fine cars were there, both owners live a good 5 wood drive away from me, small world. Dragone arrrived with a 1951 Frasier-Nash original car he just picked up. It was in british racing green with a Bristol (BMW) period engine with 3 carbs and headers. This is very much like a Cobra with 4" round tube chasis and the same engine as in the Bristol Ace. This was a magnificent car and is for sale by Dragone if he does not keep it for himself. BTW, he also has a real nice Allard with a hemi. Also there was a 1952 mint MINT XK-120 (beee still my heart) in red with hardtop coupe configuration. This car was perfect in all respects and the owner just lives around the block from me come to find out. He also has his father's 1938 Packard which was bodied in Bridgeport as a sports tourer. I HAVE to go see this and help him wax it. Neat guy... he is 86 years YOUNG. Also... in the SMALL WORLD department... I have often seen a dark blue Cobra S/C on the streets of my town over the years. Thanks to Gene Friedland's help, I have found that this gent lives ONE BLOCK away from me. He has a Midstates Cobra. Good news Bob is that he uses the car. Maybe there will soon be THREE of us on tours? Hubba Hubba! Cheers Amigo... BTW, did you use the Kozak cloth yet? |

Are you guys still on for tomorrow? Bob |
Bob:
Sadly Andra is tied up all morning with a school commitment on Saturday so we cannot get on the road until noon at the earliest. If you want to start that late then we are in. In any case we are going for a ride in the afternoon. Art |
Hey Art:
Noon works for me, I'll check with Noreen and give you a call. Bob |
You guys have great weather for a drive...enjoy. Bob, that is a great picture of you from LRP. As for me, its off to work.

Well, the ride up to Lime Rock Park on Saturday was in picture perfect weather. 70 degrees, dry crisp air with just a faint breeze. Blue cloudless skies with air so clear there was not even a hint of haze near the horizon (as is often the case in the summer months).
Bob and Noreen and I and Andra met in Stratford and motored up route 110 along the Housatonic River banks and then in Shelton, got on Route 8 North. We remained on route 8 until exit 38, where we took 254 West/North. Route 254 is a very beautiful route, pretty much 50 MPH posted road that is smooth and complete with slow curves. We followed this route all the way up to lovely Litchfield. There we took route 63 North thru Goshen and followed the signs to Lime Rock Park. The SCDA had rented the entire track this day and were doing practice heats for various different driver classifications (of skill). We saw a Factory Five Daytona turn some laps. This car was run by a chap who also has an ERA for street use. The Daytona was only for track use and it seemed to be put togeather very nicely. It was a very enjoyable day with Bob showing us some areas of LRP that we had never been to. Essentially we had the entire race park to ourselves and could walk anywhere in and around the rack track (other than on the circuit itself). Thanks for the Invite Bob! |
Just for the record, here are the 4 of us last weekend at LRP. It was a clear, dry day with lots of open road!
