Finally found a Portsmouth mechanic...
Hi guys, I'm the new SPF owner w/ the coughing engine & bad starter. The car is at Portsmouth Ford, here's their quote.
new MSD ignition: $1591 new starter: $438 Diagnosis for these 2 things: $408 Total $2437. That's over 1/3 the cost for an entire new engine, does this seem right? Advice appreciated. As for the 6/17 breakfast, well, not looking good, unless I take the NSX instead. |
For that price, less actually we will pickup your car with our enclosed trailer and repair it. Seriously, might be an option. Give us a call.

I think he found you! Check out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MSD-6...74997984QQrdZ1 I hope you get lovin with that.......forever. What kind of starter is it? He's got the Cobra price tag fever. It's your money but I'm saying DON"T DO IT!!!
|
I question his diagnoses and his pricing. Instead, take the car to your local Hot Rod shop or even corner service station for a much needed second opinion. Worst case scenario is as follows:
Billet MSD Distributor:$259 MSD 6AL Ignition box:$196 CSR Mini Hi Torque Starter: $260.00 Labor for installation:5 hours includes tune up and carb adjustments Again, I question the need for any of the above parts and perhaps not just a quality tune up and associated tune up parts . Bill S. |
Tim,
Forget that! I will call you regarding other options.................... I'll try tonight. Yes, NSX is welcome Saturday.........................Jeff |
Who did you buy it from?

And I was only kidding on the price ... would be substantially cheaper. |
Hey Tim,
How is the SPF going? Let me know, I can call that shop in Laconia for you. Had a nice cruise down to Skip's with you and Jeff. Looking forward to the next ride and you along in the SPF. Dave |
Hi guys, been out of town, I'm sorry to report I have not had time to fix the Cobra. Heading away again for the 4th weekend, but will resume my search when I get back. I really hope to find someone local, a flatbed to someplace like CT or Laconia cannot be cheap. Even if it did run, I don't trust it enough yet to go that far. Portsmouth is a big town, it cant be that tough! Many thanks for all the suggestions.
Great seeing some of you at Skips, and that Collings place was amazing. I still want a ride in one of those WWII biplanes.. will keep checking this board, & post w/ updates. Cheers -t |
