Registration of Cobra in NH

I am in the process of build and ERA 427SC based upon a new motor build by Keith Craft on a Shelby side-oiler block. I am wonder what the registration and inspection process will be in New Hampshire? Is there a way to register the car as a 1965 replica? Will I need an emissions test? Any help or experience with bow to approach this process and what is involved in doing it in New Hampshire would be much appreciated! Thanks!

SEMA backed kit car legislation was dropped when the democrat party took over the state 2 years ago. It is not currently possible to register as a 1965. Cars may be subject to ODB testing as well. Check with DMV.

I would suggest that you call the DMV as well. If it were me I would try to get the car registered as a newer car. Many states are cracking down on 1965, since they are not, titles and in the future it might be to your benefit to avoid that route.

There must be a provision for classic rods or specialty built which you might be able to get listed under. That would be my suggestion....

My car is titled as a 1985, actually 1982, so I do not require emissions. Simple safety check and I am on my way.

I just went through the registration process in NH. My son and I built a Factory Five and registered in NH, 3 Jul 07. NH does not recognize FF as a car builder such as Ford or Chrysler---I am registered as a 1965 "homemade" MK3 Roadster. NH requires you be put through the inspection machine whether or not you are OBD2 or not, pre 96 requires just the VIN be entered in the machine. I am an inspection station in NH---the car is INSPECTED as a 1965 "other". I called DMV and had a Highway Enforcement officer come to my garage and issue an 8 digit NH VIN, which is a little 1 by 3 inch sticker that goes on the frame. It almost looks like a salvage title sticker. The VIN was issued when I showed him the Certificate of Origin that was issued by Factory Five. Hope this clear up confusion?

How did the state/town configure the excise tax on 1965 or 2007?

Consider checking with your insurance agent regarding the year and vehicle make listed on the policy vs the vehicle being a replica kit car. Might/could be considered to be fraud , which might/could void the insurance coverage and/or be a felony , if there is misrepresentation .

I use the words might & could , a grey area which surfaces under unfortunate circumstances.

My veteran vanity plates were $17 at the town clerk, and I had to go to a DMV substation to get Veteran plates, only the 1st time, not renewal, that was another $67.50. We registered in Jul, my birthday is Nov. Not sure what an entire year is going to be. Any questions, call me at the garage 603 942-5288.

It looks like you are asking the same registration questions for the state of Texas? Where do you live? NH or Texas?

Registration of ERA in Collin County, TX

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello. I know that there's alot of information on this forum on registering Cobra reproductions. I am considering moving to TX and am in the process of building a new ERA 427SC with a late model engine build on a Shelby reproduction side-oiler casting. I am wonder if the car will be registered in the year it was built or as a 1965 roadster which the car is a replica of? Also, I am interested in what the process is for completing the registration, titling, etc. Thanks and sorry to ask this question again.

I am currently living in NH but considering a move to TX. I am trying to figure out whether to register my ERA in NH before I leave or take it to TX and register it there.

Two great states! Good luck with your ERA...looks like a beauty.
