New Hampshire registration question!
My car is finally done and I took it to a New Hampshire inspection station this morning. I did not pass because I didn't have full bumpers or full heat shields for the side exhaust. They want the heat shield from the turn out all the way to the exhust tip. I asked the inspector to take pictures and ask his supervisor for direction. He is doing this and getting back to me on Wed.
Any of you guys in NH have these issues come up? Thanks for your input. John If I can get it licensed this week I plan to make the breakfast in Nashusa. |

Don't go to that guy next time! I believe that once you have been failed by someone the info goes into the system. If you get a sticker from someone else the DMV guys give you a visit, figuring you are scaming the system. In 12 years I have never been questioned about my side pipes. At one point I had stainless pipes that got VERY hot. Even with heat shields they would burn flesh in a second. I used brazing rod to mock up a wire heat shield that went all the way to the tip. I took my mockup to a welder and had it made from stainless wire. Hose clamps held it in place. You could whip up something like that in no time. Some scraps of square tube should handle the bumper issue. Once you have the sticker it would be up to you if you take them off. There are many inspection stations that understand these cars. They will preform a good safety inspection but overlook such things as bumper height. For example my defroster and wipers work but I have never had to prove it. Hope this helps. Harvey |

I should have been clearer in my post. I wasn't at a state authorized inspection station for a safety check. I was being inspected by the state so that they could assign a VIN. After receiving a ViN I would be able to register the car and then have it safety inspected.
The officer doing the inspection acknowledged that there was a provision in the law for replicas. The requirment is for the replica to have the same and meet the same safety requirments as the original. When he denied the me the VIN because my car had racing quick jack brackets and unsheilded sidepipes. He refered me to the code for current vehicles, not replicas. As I said he took pictures and is to let me tomorrow if his supervisor will pass my car. I was just wondering from other New Hampshire Cobra owners if they had problems with these two items. When the officer can to check my car, I did not even have the bumpers on. There was also no mention regarding any requirement to have het sheilds on the side pipes. Mike |
