Drive to Lime Rock July 18th for American Le Mans GP
Looking to get a group together for a drive up to watch the racing excitement at Lime Rock Park on Saturday July 18th. The American Le Mans Grand Prix will be in its second day.
The American Le Mans Series boasts the best, world-renowned drivers piloting the meanest, greenest race cars in the world. Dedication to sophisticated technology and green racing defines this series as one of the best in the business. With an electrifying field of Ferraris, Vettes, BMWs and Acuras worth bragging about, the ALMS weekend is not one to be missed. And neither is the amazing opportunity for fans to stand on the starting grid just minutes before the green flag waves. Supporting the ALMS superstars will be Formula Atlantic and Formula BMW providing some intense open-wheel racing. Intention is to have a meeting spot along Route 8 North on Saturday morning and then go in as a group to the event. We will take advantage of the Specialty Parking Area at the event which is essentially a fantastic car show a few steps from the racing action. Details for Specialty Parking: The ever growing and popular Specialty Car Lot is back for the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix, 17-18 July 2009. That’s right – all of our fans who arrive in interesting and special cars get their very own parking spot. Because this parking lot has been so successful, we are now splitting it into two groups: pre-1970 cars (anything and everything!) and post-1970 specialty cars (to include foreign and domestic, interesting and special). “Special cars doesn’t necessarily mean expensive,” says Skip Barber, President of Lime Rock Park. “Of course we want the Ferrari’s, but a nice convertible Cadillac El Dorado is also welcome.” Like all parking at Lime Rock, it’s free! Don’t worry about door-nicks and you’re not far from the Spectator hillside. The Specialty Car Lot is conveniently located in the Infield. When you arrive in style and come over the Infield Bridge, if you’re driving something we think other fans will want to see, one of Lime Rock’s trained parking specialists will give you the option of the Specialty Car Lot. The Specialty Car Lot becomes a show in and of itself. But don’t get lost in the assembly of cool cars, after all there’s a race to see remember!? NOW THE IMPORTANT PART: If we can get a sizable turnout for this I will ask my contacts at LRP if we can take advantage of the Car Corral program for the Rolex Vintage Weekend in September. If you are not familiar with the Car Corral setup here goes: Corrals include premium parking in the Infield as well as parade laps on Saturday for the first 50 cars from each marque to arrive. Car Corral Package Includes: • General Admission Tickets • Infield corral parking • Parade laps on Saturday only for first 50 cars to arrive Rates: Friday Advance – $30 Friday (race week) – $40 Saturday Advance – $65 Saturday (race week) – $75 Weekend Advance – $80 Weekend (race week) – $110 - CAR CORRAL TICKETS ARE NOT SOLD ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT - Important: Only the driver needs to purchase a car corral ticket. Passengers can purchase a regular Saturday general admission ticket. Please have this ticket ready to show the parking attendant when you enter the park. |
Hey Jay:
Sounds like a terrific idea. So do I understand this correctly - the first 50 Cobras get to go around in July - or is that a hope for Labor Day? I would suggest meeting at the Dunkin Donuts in Thomaston on 254 - Exit 38 on 8. The ride up 254 and 64 is smooth and fast. recently heard that the bridge on Route 7, about a mile from LRP, is out. Do you know if that's the case? Bob |
The concept is, if we get enough participation in July we can hopefully get the Corral treatment in September.
Is that the same D&D from the fall? It did not have the best parking situation. There is another one up a little more that has a better lot. Or a commuter lot of some sort would be ideal. |
Just line them up at the base of 254. Keep in mind the Labor Day event coincides with the Goshen Fair which makes the drive home agonizing. You can't get through Torrington or Litchfield. You'd think the local police (or the State Troopers in Litchfield) would help, but they're at the Duncan Donuts I was talking about.

There is a FordGT/Shelby Car Corral in play right now for that event

Are the SAAC guys allowing non-members?
Bob |
It is not a SAAC-sanctioned event...that was info posted about the Corral.
I think it is being organized by the FordGT guys Drop 'em a note to confirm fordgt66@hotmail.com |
I don't know, I've been going to the Labor Day event for 5+ years ... have never gotten caught in any form of Goshen Fair congestion... perhaps we take different routes.
But let's keep this discussion on track about JUNE 18th. |
Just a reminder on this one.

We have a potential schedule conflict with this one. Some of our group wants to hit the OCC Car Show in Newburgh, NY at their HQ on Saturday. This is another promising event and the drive there is nearly as fun as the ride to Lime Rock. They are a similar distance for us, but we have several customers in NY and PA that could join us for the OCC trip.
Not much response here either way. So let me know if you are preferential to either. Weather is promising at this point. Thanks. |
WE ARE PLANNING A DRIVE TO OCC INSTEAD.
Please visit our Web site for further information. If you did not get an email from me then send me one so I can get you on our list. Thanks. |
OCC ride
Hey Jay ,I'm in ! The OCC ride is nice and it's close for me in Greenwich as compared to going to Lime Rock. I'll try & get Roz & some of the other guys. Should I drive the Cobra or the GT 40 ?

We can arrange to get both there. I am thinking that the GT would be nice there on Sunday?

Maybe you should repost this as OCC NY car show, you might pickup more followers from this neck of the woods. |
Will do that shortly. Weatherman will not make up his mind.
