Well, I like the solid blue and the no stripes. You should do it right and go with the stainless pipes and chrome rollbar. :)

Heheheh, hey Chris - well If I did that next I'd need to change to 17" Panasport wheels too right? and then finding myself explaining to everyone "no this is not Chris' old car". :)

First Cobra that I painted was solid black with all chrome bits. Second Cobra and theme was Silver and black bits in reverse. Now a 3rd version somewhere in between will be black bits, scuffed aluminum bits, against Dark Blue - we'll see if it works. Heck, I thought of even painting the centers of my wheels Orange like the Sunoco theme, but won't go that far off this time around. In any case, the Blue body sure looked nice coming home on the trailer today in a little sun, gray, or dark sky, and under florescent lights too - the old Silver never did that before, only looked its best in bright sun.

Thanks Ken - got it home okay!

Drug the car home in the rain, and got it nice and dirty already. Spent a few hours this morning washing it and tucking it away. It now matches the walls on the Cobra Garage!

What's amazing is how the color looks in different lighting and how it changes so much from overcast light, florescent, minimal sun, flash or no flash photos. If you compare to the original photos in the paint booth, looks like a completely different color in some lighting situations.

Thanks Ken, really like it alot. D

Duane,

Wonderful color. Great job. I'm blue with envy. :)

Almost looks like a polished Kirkham in that rear view.

Thanks Guys! Hey John!

Its something I wanted to do five years ago, and decided to earn a few more chips on the ol' Silver getup.

Funny thing was both Ken (painter) and good friend Dan (GT390FE) kept asking me, more than a few times "well, do you like it, do you like it?" I sort of hesitated to respond just processing it all; strangely enough. It wasn't until I got it home, cleaned up, and pushed into the Cobra cave did it seem like it belonged in my garage. It took a lot of staring to figure out this was my car, looking so very different than before.

I explained the confusion to a good friend. So, let's say you've always dated blondes your whole life, and your blonde wife after 20 years walks in the door as a Brunette. You'd probably sit there for a bit staring to see how different she looks. I guess it was sort of like that for me, hahahaha. :)

Did he say awsome???

Decooney You have Chevy wheels on a cobra #@$%&%$:rolleyes:;) Any way What is the name of the paint shield you guys are using. Next year old era #428 is going for a freshup. Wonder if that stuff will work around the side pipes?? Rick L.

decooney 11-22-2010 01:56 PM

Hey Rick,

What's wrong you don't like my rat-rod Chevy wheels on a Cobra?... hahahah! Those are junker rollers I temporarily robbed off of a JCF slabside project Cobra Gary at GT Auto is doing for a customer right now. Trying to decide on Gray or repainted Black centers for the Trigos at the moment; probably Black. The spray on clear-guard stuff is called "2k", and if you like Ken at Ken's Custom Auto Body in Yuba City can tell you all about it. Lays on nice, buffs out pretty clean, and has less of a haze or blurr to it as compared to the former 3M spray-on stuff he used 2-3years ago. BTW: i'll be pulling that EHA-WHK kit down for ya this holiday weekend when I go up in the attic for Xmas lights. Talk soon.

Try some satin black spray can paint as a test on one side to see if you like it.....I would do the entire wheel. It is easily removed for a more permanent application.

I powdercoated the wheels satin black on my GT40 - had the place in Folsom do it. They sand blasted the wheels and then insisted that I come and look at them at that point (before the powdercoating) as they thought that I should run the wheels in their "natural" state......I almost did. I think with a little more "weathering" they would have looked pretty cool. The sandblasting and powdercoating cost $400, btw.

Nice garage!

Hey Duane,
Welcome to the dark blue side. We've been waiting for you. :D
Looks awesome.

Thanks to Ken's Custom Auto Body

In closing, a big THANKS going out to Ken Pike / Ken's Custom Auto Body in Yuba City CA for doing such a nice job repainting my car.

I've known Ken for many years now, and he had been after me to repaint my car after us working on some joint project cars together for friends, after many referrals, and now it was my turn for once. Not only was it a treat to actually have someone else prep and paint my own car for me this time around, but Ken & team actually exceeded my expectations just as he has for so many people. My photo here is not the best, but you get the idea. I've never waxed it, it had only been wiped down once and had been sitting for four solid days with dust on it when this shot was taken. Looks much better in person, if I must say.

Thanks Ken. Nice work! I'm very happy with it. :D

Close-up shot of the Paint on clear bra too, buffed to a shine!

The line is intentional just like on race cars... but subtle.

Chaplin 02-16-2011 09:44 PM

Really nice Duane! Like it a lot. Could only look better if it was green. ;)

decooney 02-16-2011 09:47 PM

Hey Chaplin,

Funny you mention Green. Two of my buddies are now totally entrenched repainting their cars right now too - every night sending photos of different color ideas back and forth, looking for something a bit different

One other color we talked about alot is a nice dark metallic green. We were at our local autorama this week and House of Kolor was there, and we saw THE coolest Green color I've ever seen. I must stay, it made me think for a moment - if I had seen it before, I might have a dark met Green car instead but love the Blue. Thanks. :)

Duane ... Very nice !

Chas ... Very nice !

Great minds must indeed think alike ... :)

decooney 03-10-2011 06:54 PM

Thanks Tim!

If one is color blind like me and you can't tell them apart, the only remaining indicator and question is which of the two 427 cars has the quick jacks pointed in the correct direction, or maybe Chas secretly has a small block under that hood. Hahahaha, Just kidding. The photo of Chas' car makes me want to flip mine around, it does look a little more sanitary ;)

rustyBob 03-10-2011 07:57 PM

I think it looks good in the all the photos...
