New Member/Cobra owner -- looking for SB100 advice

I live in Auburn (Sacramento) and would appreciate any advice/helpful hints on which might be the best DMV offices/BAR locations to go through the SB100 process. My purchase will either be a new Backdraft or a re-sale Backdraft from out-of-state. Is there a difference in the process if the car is a new build or has already been title in another state? Thanks in advance for your input and I look forward to joining with all Cobra enthusiasts in this area!!

Hi Cartman, The process will be different with a new build as opposed to an already titled car. if it is a new build keep all receipts you will need to prove where the parts came from and whether or not you paid sales tax on them. If the car you are looking at is already titled make sure that it was properly titled in the state that it is coming from, don't just take the sellers word for this do your homework , it may save you a major headache later. Last I knew there was still a somewhat gray area concerning the titleing of out of state cars, the DMV will take your out of state title and simply charge you the fees and give you a new title based on the information from the old title, the potential problem could come from how the title is worded, if it says 65 Cobra or 65 Ford but was built in 2002 then that misrepresents what you actually have and could be looked at as illegal in California. also I hear that some of the SB100 rules are changeing so look at the DMV website to get the latest information, you need to learn all you can about the SB100 process because you will most likely be talking to someone at the DMV who will have no idea what your talking about.

I don't know if this is Jeff? You should talk to Artin about the process, he has just walked through it with his new Backdraft. His info here: http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/back...some-pics.html

This is Jeff! Jay -- good detective work!

I am still looking for recommendations about locations in the Sacramento area to make the SB100 process easier.

New or used, the process is very similar. You'll still need to visit a CHP and BAR office. Depending on what the DMV requires, you may also need to get a B&L certificate too.

Whether used or new, the CHP will want a VIN# "permanently" affixed to vehicle under the hood. You can do this, which is preferable, or they will do it for you.
