Who Let the Dogs Out

I got my SB100 number! Everyone who went to the Santa Clara DMV (and who stood in line in the morning) got a number by 8:30. In fact, one guy got the very first number issued ...#1. The Santa Clara DMV was very organized and knew what they were doing!

#203!

I was at Carmichael DMV at 5:00am and was 2nd in line!

The Office Manager (I very nice lady) came outside at 7:45am and collected everyones SB100 paperwork. By the time I got inside to window #2 at 8:00am, she was already dialing-for-numbers.

At 8:30am she gave us the thumbs up & I got #203!

EXHALE!

P.S. What a great way to start out a new year!:MECOOL:

I was second in line for the opening of the door, processed the papers by 8:05 and had a seat. Had some serious stomach acid going, then finally they called my name at 8:55 and told me I was #301. I love it!

Checked in...

I got up early for work today and stopped by to check in on my buddies at the Roseville office and noted a small group of 6-6 at 7am or so in front of Folsom on the way over. My two friends at Roseville were #1 and #2 in line and out the door at 8:30 with numbers 138 and 139. They were happy to get it over with. It will be interesting to see who got #500 and what that time was, if anyone knows.

I heard from a friend of mine that someone was camping out in the Napa DMV parking lot on New Year's Eve to get their number!! I know it was true, but I don't know what kind of car they were getting the number for.

They are not issued sequentially so you cannot judge by what number you get.

Does anybody know anyone who didn't get a number?

Just curious. Maybe I'll send flowers.

Duane,
I'm not sure how they divide them up. I just know based on numbers and time from last year that it was not done sequentially. I know that Sacramento has a few different lines to call into (I think they had six last year) and they may give each of the lines a "block" of numbers to distribute. The exact process is a mystery to me.

I got caught in a procedure change. For those correcting the registration of a used Cobra you bought, the new procedure is to go to the CHP first to verify it is a kit car and THEN go to the DMV for an SB100 number. Unclear what the CHP does when they rule your current registration invalid. Most likely they will take the VIN number and plates so this step needs to be done late in the year.

Last year the procedure was the opposite... SB100 number first, then CHP, then BAR.

I also recommend visiting the DMV before Jan 2 to make sure both you and they agree on the procedure. Talk to a supervisor, not a clerk. You won't know what clerk you'll get on D-day but the supervisor will be there.

tcrist 01-03-2007 12:41 PM

NEKSNPR,
What do you mean by correcting the registration of a used cobra? Do you mean registering it in your name after you bought it? Or is there some kind of new law about registering kit cars. I already have a BAR plate on my Cobra (issued in hte early 90's) and it is already in my name.
Thanks in advance
Terry
