Need Help asap.

First post here as my family just picked up a cobra. Its a gunmetal grey with black stripes out of mission viejo in socal. But my problem is that I am 25, and hagerty will not insure me to drive it until I am 26.

So my question to you all is, who covers your cobra and how much do you pay, and if you are 25 years old or if your son is insured, how much is it?

My wife can drive it, even though she is 25, but she is a woman so thats ok. I hate insurance companies.

When's your birthday?

Also do a search on CC on Insurance and look at some of the other recommendations. Maybe the age requirement is specific to Hagerty. My policy is written with Infintiy Insurance through Northwest Classic Insurance.

Sex change operation?

spunkygiraffe 10-28-2008 04:13 PM

Thinking about the sex change. We have I think 5 cars with Hagerty, but because the motor is so powerful, I cant drive it. But I can drive the C6 vette around no problems.

I'm getting a quote from Northwest right now. Thanks and keep em coming!!

State Farm insures lots of cobra replicas. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call and get a quote. Call a few different State Farm agents as you WILL get different answers and prices from each agent.

When I had my cobra, I was 31, and State Farm put it on an "antique/historic" policy. Full coverage, no real limit on miles, and it was like $400 for the year.

Good luck.

spunkygiraffe 10-29-2008 12:57 PM

400 a year? dang. I will give them a call too. Thanks for all the help, I am waiting til today to see the car and then I am going to call around. The title is in my dads name, and if we did switch it up, it would be his primary car and I would be on the policy, so that will affect it. 61 years old vs 25 years old...hhmm...

pgermond 10-29-2008 10:27 PM

State Farm $364/yr. full replacement value.

I'm 59...... back when I was 25 i had previously owned ("owned" being the operative word) a '63 split window vette when I was 18 and was paying $3,000/yr for PL and PD for my indiscretions - no joke. All depends on your driving record.

spunkygiraffe 10-30-2008 02:51 PM

Yea my dad is the the owner and when we go to shows/events I would like to drive it as well. We have other stuff in the garage as well that are just as cool, I just want to be able to drive it sometimes. We are calling around and so far Northwest is the cheapest for us, but hagerty expires in Jan. so we will sign up with someone new then since it is starting into the raining season tonight. Boooo

I dont think hagerty even insures cobras unless they just started within the last year.

The cobra is a 2004 I think and it is hagerty insured as we speak. We are going to wait til all the cars run up in january since it is raining and the cars are in storage, then we are going to switch over to the best price. We will get quotes from every insurance company listed above and decide.

Thanks to everyone! I will post some pics asap but it is in the new Kit Car Magazine, the performance tests and such, the grey cobra.

they do on a case by case basis...they insure all the ones purchased at auctions because of the collectability of them...but we have been insuring all the cars with them for a couple of years and they took ours without too much fuss...

State Farm insures our Cobras and most of my California customers. Full coverage with $50K value runs about $135-$154.00 for 6 months depending on the county you live in. Since the car is owned by your father, he'll need to place the insurence on it. As long as you don't live with daddy....you'll be covered.

spunkygiraffe 11-03-2008 01:19 PM

He just registered....culdad above. So I'm sure we will switch up when the time comes
