Another SB100 Question
All,
If I have a car built as a total turnkey, weather here in CA or out of state, will I have issues with SB100? Thinking of have a Superformance (dealer here is CA) or Backdraft (dealer out of state) and just want to make sure a complete turnkey will work with the SB100. Thanks, PCW |

PCW,
The simple answer is: Yes, the issue you will have is that you will NOT be able to title/register it in CA. SB100 is only for Specially Constructed Vehicles, which by definition are not "turnkey". All SPF and Backdraft dealers in CA know this. I suggest that you buy the "turnkey minus" from one dealer (reciept #1) and have another vendor sell you the drivetrain and install it (reciept #2). Good luck, Randy... |
PCW,
I found this thread which addresses turnkeys/SB100. Don't know if things have changed, but looks like you need to be very careful... http://tinyurl.com/lkq7mb As a satisfied Superformance owner, I can recommend their cars, manufacturer support and an organized helpful owner base. I am obviously biased, but I hope you become a Superformance owner. Jack |
Thanks to all, I thought I heard something about complete turnkeys having issues. Ok, second question, Let's say I go with a Backdraft, no dealer in CA that I am aware of. Dealer is in TX or CT, I buy the turnkey (-) motor and trans, receipt # 1. Right next to Backdraft dealer is an install shop, who does the install of motor and trans, receipt # 2, again this is out of the state of CA. Will the 2 receipts from 2 different out of state vendors works for SB100? This same scenario is done in CA with Superformance all the time, so just wondering how they (Superformance) make it work.
Thanks, Craig |

I bought my car from Dynamic in Reno and Full Throttle did the install. Two separate entities and separate receipts from both. |
Thanks to all for the info. I will be as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs until I pass the SB100 :)

Yes, this is the appropriate response when dealing with the gubment.
