Superformance Repair in PDX....
Hey,
Anyone in the PDX area with an (early) SPF Cobra want to assist with some rear-suspension repair? Recently I broke a rear suspension bolt on #408 (Forward, Outer, Lower control arm bolt broke) causing some suspension damage. Pics here. I'm pulling it apart and rebuilding basically the whole thing including new shocks and sway bars from Cobra Valley (thanks RT!). Inspection also shows the old upper shock mount problem, as well as failed lower bushings in the rear shocks. On the other side I had a torn axle boot. All getting fixed (and safety wired in). If anyone has experience here, and would like to lend a hand, I would not turn down the offer of some advise to help get #408 back on the road. This is NOT and SOS....the car is home, but outdoors (in a secure area on my property) as I don't have a shop to work on it (I store the car safely in a garage, but there is little room to do major work there). I am anxious to get it back and running as I know the nice weather cannot hold for much longer and I want to DRIVE IT! I'm basically doing this blind, with what I've gleaned from the SCOF tech articles and this site. I think it's enough, but you never know what other jems of insight may be out there from folks who may have been through this effort before. Thanks in advance, Dan Martin #408 |
Dan,
Give me a call and maybe we can hook up to look at your repairs. I live in Hillsboro- just a couple blocks from Poynter Middle School and the Hillsboro Airport and I am scratch building a Cobra so I can possibly help with your repairs. My number is Five Oh Three Six Four Oh 3968. Bob |
Dan,
The SCOF tech articles sound like a good place to start. Did you get the updated shock mounts and all new suspension bolts for both sides? If you need a hand, let me know and I could take a look at this weekend. Dana |
Whoa baby! Is it the picture or are the exhaust pipes right next to the body in picture #8? It looks way too close, is something else going on?

Yes, I've ordered all of that stuff, as well as new shocks (yes, I had the bushing problem, so replacing those too). Since I've got it apart, I'll be putting in updated sway bars, etc. Might as well while it's apart. I'm still waiting on a few parts from SPF. I got the bolts, bushings, etc to replace the failed/bent ones, but still waiting on the lower control arm and a few misc parts. I'm also needing to order some new bolts to replace some ones I messed up getting off (overtightened or frozen) for the brake caliper as well as the updated axle nuts (I have to remove them anyway to replace the boot on the one side, and to dig out the other end of the broken bolt out of the hub on the other). I'll be out there this weekend working, but unless the LCA comes in, it will still be tear down and probably just axle boot repair and reassembly. Nothing too exciting. Don't make a special trip. :) I'll PM you my phone number if you want to connect. Dan Martin #408 |

The mount is broken...just happened (I think when it was being pulled up on the tow truck). I'll be fixing *that* too. Just a quick weld job. It's not touching...just close. Crap comes in bunches I guess. :) I don't like the stock pipes anyway...will be getting the polished ones from MasterTouch. Dan Martin #408 |

I live right over there in Orenco...in the Sunset Downs neighborhood right off of Cornell. Sounds like you could walk here. :) I'll give you a call. I want to see that scratch built car! Dan Martin #408 |
