Post SEMA pics please !

Anybody that is at SEMA;
Would you please post some pics so us working stiffs can see what we're missing.
Thanks,
Perry.

Perry, I haven't taken any pictures, too many people in the way!

Just imagine the world's biggest toy chest, then quintuple it! It is spread through several HUGE halls and entails a LOT of walking.

Just a few highlights. If your main focus is Cobra stuff, the pickin's is thin. FFR has a good size display, and Ford invited Kirkham to display one of their bare naked ladies, along with having a Daytona to view. Ford also had the 2005 Mustang GT show car on a rotating platform...........................the hired model is superfluous. One (or should I say 2) of the more intriguing Fords on display were modular V8 Focus ZX2's, one supercharged, one naturally aspirated. These are not the Kugel 5.0 swap cars, but mod motors. No glitz or glamour under the hood, I think they were going for the "factory" look. The Lightening boys have had to go back to the drawing board though because the Dodge Boys are rolling out their 500hp, Viper powered pickemup.

While there is a lot of Muscle Car/Street Rod/Sports Car equipment there, the preponderance of "stuff" is "tuner" oriented, followed by truck/SUV. A person can only take so much carbon fiber/stainless fartcan/neon light/flourescent colored everything/spoiler wing/ground effect/mega stereo/yada yada. And there must be somewhere around 62 million variations on 22-26" custom hoops, half of which must be required by law to have the rotating center spokes designed to induce vertigo.:p As for paint trends, it looks like a strong lean toward "satin" finish, particularly in the pewter or titanium tones. And those rat rod guys thought they had a lock on suede!

Even though the ricer stuff isn't my gig, it's fun to keep up on what's "hot". Just based on the (not inexpensive) amount of floor space, it is undeniably a very strong market.

Thanks for the update Bob.

I'm sure alot of it is overcommercialized, but one day I'll have to go see it for myself and take it all in.
Perry.

Well Perry, it is all about the business of movin' hardware!

Went back today to soak in a little more. Worked with a friend who does a vintage vehicle show on PAX TV. We taped several interviews.

I'd especially like to thank Dave and Tom Kirkham for being very cordial and giving a great interview.

Lastly, finally got to meet "Too Tall" Bob Evans.

Perry,

Deni and I just got back. I echo Bob's remarks re the tuner scene. Very bizarre! I would hate to be a small custom wheel maker trying to compete in that overstaurated market. Most of those things would make Liberace blanch!

The new Ford GT was there along with a vintage GT-40. I thought it was actually a very nice take on the original. Spoke to David Kirkham and he mentioned that they are making Street 289s in Europe but they sell so fast over there that they have none available yet for the U.S. market. Thought it might be Spring before they're for sale here. His speculation on price was $39K less engine/tranie.

SEMA is a trip! If any of you have a chance to go, it's worth it. Just wear comfortable shoes.

Walt
