Who narrows rearends?
Any recommendations of a shop that knows what they are doing that can narrow and set up a Ford rearend?
|
|
It's a solid. My problem is I'm a mechanical novice, I've no real clue of what I'm doing. I want to narrow the rearend on my car so the wheels sit more inside the wheel wells. I've checked Currie but I want to take the car somewhere locally and have them do it correctly....rather than screwing it up as I'm liable to do left to my own knowledge and skills, I know my limitations;)

The guy who built my 37 pick-up is now a retired pro hot rod builder up in Maple Valley. His is very very picky about how things get done and by who. If you want I can give him a call and see who he would recomend. Bob Davidson who is my pinstripper and has been laying paint on cars here since 56. He would know someone for sure. Let me know and I will make the calls for ya. Matt oh ya what rearend is it so I can give them some better info then "a rearend" :D |
Thanks Matt.
The rearend is a Ford 9'' . I think it might be a late '70s or early '80's from a Granada or Torino, not sure. My car was originally built as a street car running wire wheels about 6.5 all the way around thus the rear axle is about 1.5'' too wide for the 9.5'' rear wheels letting the tires/rims protrud from under the rear wheels about the same amount. Appreciate the offer. Gary |
Gary
got it I will let you know what I find out tomarrow. Matt |
Have you tried Jenny Criag?? ;)

LMAO:LOL:
Bite me;) |
Gary, what did you end up doing with your parking brake?
( old post ) |
Gary, try Northwest Differential in Kirkland. They did some work on my Jag rear for a good price. They rebuilt Zderf's Ford 9" and he seemed pretty happy with them too.

Gary,
I understand local, but shipping isn't that high and few have respline, heat, and flame/quench treating equipment for a "suitable" axle end in your area that I'm aware of. "I'll check on a fella that did one for me from the 70's in Seattle that used to do it for the rodders, but doubt if he is around. You may have to settle for CURRIE and a few others elsewhere for the axles. grumpy update: His son said he sold the shop in 96 and is retired to his home state. |
Ditto on NW Diff in the Totem Lake area. Worked with them many times with very good results...

Gary,
I got Dutchman forged axles ,they are in Portland,Or. Perry. |

I bought the Dutchman axles but had my housing narrowed at Morrison's in Fife. |
Anyone hear of Jantz Engineering on the Peninsula? They were highly recommended by a few guys I know here that run street/hot rods and muscle cars.
Originally from Spokane |
There is also a retired machinist in Bremerton who narrows the housings and also shortens and resplines axles. Contact Steve T for more info.

BLOOD ENTERPRISES IN AUBURN WASHINGTON CAN NARROW YOUR REAR. THEY SERVICE MANY PEOPLES COBRAS AND HAVE A FULL FABRICATION DEPT TOO.
They also utilize some local peers as well like Hotrod fabrication for instance. They do a lot of race quality work. Very reputable fellows. Call Mark at 253-939-4121 or email at bloodent@comcast.net |
rearend issues use art morrison in fife
Art Morrison is very respected in racing circles, they should be able to do the whole job for you. I have used their products, great people.
Forget the Dutchman group, not only did they cut my rearend the wrong length for my cobra ( I gave them a cad designed layout as to how I wanted it done) but they stoled some fittings off my housing that were irreplaceable & I had to have an specialized machinest make them for me. james |
