Winter Projects
 

The weather in Western Washington has been dismal to say the least these past two months. As a result, I have managed to get a few “off season” projects done.
Carbon fiber spats were installed, the starter switch was replaced and a trunk hold open rod has replaced the PVC pipe. The side pipes were ceramic coated (polished aluminum finish), headlight stone guards installed, the ignition coil was upgraded and Carrera coil-over shocks purchased and hopefully installed this weekend. The wheels were removed and cleaned along with the brake calipers. The remote oil filter lines were replaced with braided stainless steel ones and both fuel filters were changed. For a little extra bling a fuel pressure gauge was added. Items still on the list are a passenger grab bar and a complete waxing. Today was 41* and sunny, so to prevent the tires from getting flat spots and to get rid of the winter gas a 40 minute drive was in order. So what have the rest of you been doing?

Well Steve I have been waiting for it to stop raining long enough to go for a cool winters ride. I cant seem to get home from work before sundown lately and as soon as it gets dark its been freezing. The only thing my Cobra is afraid of is slick pavement. But I am getting closer every day.

I have been rebuilding my 1966 109 long wheel base Landrover so I can pull my Cobra out thru the rain drops. and up the drive to dry pavement. I replace the MSD 6 with a MSD 6 plus. after the break down this fall. Need to also fix some paint chips from last summer and would like to upgraded my brakes but think that well happen next winter. In mid Feb. we well be seeing more daylight.
I think I have seen your Cobra when I have been over at my sons house in Lakewood he lives just off I-5 Gravely Lake exit just west off the Argo station, what color is your Cobra?

Winter projects
 

I got all the parts to build a 354 stroker. When I get caught up on the other projects, I'm going to build the motor and swap them in the Cobra. I also have a shift light to install. I have a hard top that needs some work to fit and paint. I'm trying to add 20' x 50' onto the back of my shop with a bath room. I'm going to hire someone to do most of that work. Installing a 450' water line may be the hardest part of that project. We have worked 7 days a week at the job for 3 or 4 months and that cut into my fun time. But I got three days off for the new years and 50 things to do. Got to go beadblast some car parts, pick up a motor, some shelves, go for a ride before it rains.

UPDATE Saturday; I installed the shift lite. Bleadblasted a timing chain cover and clear coated it. Polished on the aluminum hood scoop I bought at LCS 06. I have plans of getting old Shelby to sign it. It will look great on the shop wall. Parrish came out to the shop and took me for a ride in his E-M Cobra. I video about 20 minutes of the ride and was able to burn 17 minutes onto a DVD. 55 degrees, not bad for winter. It started raining about noon and rained all night. Sunday; For my wifes birthday I installed 60' of chair rail in the hall / foyer. I will finish that project Monday. I hope. The weather will be sunny and 55 - 60 degrees Monday and Tuesday. Maybe I'll get to drive my Cobra and get Doc to do the video'ing??

Plans for Winter 06/07::o

1) Remove Hurst shifter and install new functional 427 reverse OEM type.

2) New 16" OEM steering wheel: Been on order for some time now via Moto-Lita.

3) New front brake pads, ss flex lines, and bleed system.

4) Install a roll bar 427 OEM style not a shorty.

5) Installing high flow water pump, thermostat, and Fluidyne aluminum radiator angled back like it is supposed to be.

Hopefully at that point Spring will be close...............

Radiator angled back like it is supposed to be - - just wondering about this. My first cobra was an LA Exotic and it had the radiator angles back. Now I have a Superformance and the radiator is straight. I would think being straight would be better??

Steve, I finally pulled the exhaust off my car and had had Ray weld on the new mufflers. The neighbors should be even more happy as the car is now even louder! The up side is about a 50-70HP gain over stock. Man do they sound good. They are now at the powder coater and should be done this next week. I think I will wait until spring for a dyno tune.

My Cobra is black with grey silver metal flake stripes. I use Gravelly Lk. Drive quite often.

Hey Steve and Jake. Who did the coating on your exhaust? What was the price and are you happy with the finished product? I'm getting close to having mine coated.

I had Performance Coatings Inc. in Auburn do mine. I had the Cromex finish which looks like polished aluminum. They do excellent work and I highly recommend them. The cost for my side pipes were $415.50 including sales tax.

If you want the polished look I agree with Steve....Go with Performance Coatings. On the other hand, if you want just a high heat powdercoat (Black or White) Ken's in Spanaway will do them for $200-$300.

Very nice. Does the engine seem to be running good? Did you by chance have the engine previously chassis dyno'd with the demon carb?, and are you going to chassis dyno your current set-up?

Anthony, I did not have it dynoed . the 750 Demon and victor intake ran great ,I can only hope this setup runs as good. defintly looks better

That is a sweet looking set up.

I did this over the weekend it starts and runs but still needs some tuning.

Yup the thermostat housing bolt is out. I wrinkled the gasket and had a leak so I pulled it and took the pictures later
