Cold Sunday Drive

Well I finally got my new side pipes back from the powder coater and they turned out very nice. I got so excited that I put them on in my 38 degree shop. I talked to Fred Hamilton and he shared my excitement and said that he would be over after work to give them a listen. Fred liked the sound of the pipes in the garage and I insisted that he here them under load. This is where things get interesting.
For those of you who do not live in Washington, you will think we're crazy. You see, we still have snow on the road and it has been well below freezing for a week. Most of the main roads were clear with snow in the turn lanes. Long story short we toured around Puyallup in the Cobra with know top in sub freezing temps. We got lots of thumbs up and strange looks along the way. At one point I thought that I had frost bite on my ears. Bottom line is that it was a day I will not soon forget and the pipes sound incredible! :)

Jake, that sounds like fun. I need to give them a listen. Could you tell much difference in power?

btw, I too took a test drive on Sunday testing out my new coil-overs and new MSD ignition. Cold pavement makes more great horsepower and very limited traction. very fun!

Tracy,
From the research I did it should add 50-70 HP. It may be half that or less with a small block. The problem on the stock SPF exhaust is the 2 inch inside diameter. I now have 3 inch and it sounds like a different car. It has a deeper throaty tone and is a bit louder....But still tolerable without ear plugs. For anyone in the Seattle area that has a SPF and wants the new mufflers added to stock pipes...Stay tuned. We are putting some prices together for the conversion of stock pipes. We also plan on doing some dyno tests to see what kind of real power we are getting. Besides the awsome exhaust note the new mufflers are cool enough to touch by hand after a hour run. You can not do that with the stock pipes. I have branded and sent a few friends to the hospital with the old ones. More to come!

Jake
you had your sidepipes heat powder coated? Not ceramic coated like jet-hot or whatever?

Who did you use to do your sidepipes?

I'm rebuilding my exhaust system this winter and would prefer to have the sidepipes finished somewhat locally.

Gary, I used Ken's in Spanaway. They are not jet coated...Just flat black ceramic coated.

Glad you like them Jake. Can't wait to see what the dyno tests show.
I'm pretty hard core and I have good heat in mine, but out blasting around in the snow on Sunday??? I'm surprised we didn't read about you in the paper!
