Registering in WA State

Hi guys. As early as the end of this year I will be moving to Bainbridge Island. Currently I have my SPF registered here in Calif. and have been active with the Bay Area Cobra Club for the past 4 years. I was wondering what headaches or pitfalls I am going to run into in getting the Cobra registered in Wash. state? Can anyone who has gone through bringing a Special Construction vehicle (that's what CA DMV calls them) from CA, or any other state, into WA comment??

Thanks,

Bill

No issues at all. You may require a state patrol VIN inspection to validate the current reg info. They no longer do safety inspections due to budget cutbacks so no issues there.

Thanks Neal. Any issues with smog checks? I'm currently under the SB-100 exemption for smog.

My Classic Roaster came out of CA with a SB 100 waiver and WA state looked at me and laughed. They said they dont care what any other state does WA state goes by the year the vehicle it titled at. So mine was titled as a 91 Classic Roadster I have to follow 91 emissons. So it all depends on what year you are titled as. But not to worry there are many helpfull people in WA to help you out.

Bill,

Welcome to Bainbridge Island! There are currently no emissions testing in our area.

Thanks Bob. I'm sure we'll get to know each other and those in the NW Cobra Club before long. We're building our home in Port Blakely soon. Coming up in February to meet with our contractor about getting started.

Welcome to BI. We are smog free as of now here in Kitsap Co. Inspection is a breeze here, my car came in from out-of-state WASP inspection took about 10 min, spent the other 35min talking with the inspector and patrolmen that came in from the office about the car.

You will like BI(weather is an issue, it is rather wet some of the time) in 20 min. there are some great cruising roads to be had with little traffic.

PS Who's your contractor,Bill?

I just bought mine from out of state...correct me if I'm wrong but there is not WA state inspection of cars anymore (for more than a year or so). Smog inspection is the only inspection required and it is not required in Kitsap County, so there will be no inspection.

G.R. - we'll be doing business with Knight Construction Company. We have 4 acres in Port Blakely that we've had for about 8 years now. Karen and I will be retiring as soon as the house is completed, hopefully by years end. I look forward to meeting all the club regulars when we finally get settled in!

They are great builders. Reason I asked is because we build here also.
Blakeley is a great area to build in. May your build and transition go well.
Look forward to meeting you as well.

G.R. - Does the NW Cobra Club have any reguler meetings, like breakfast meetings, or do ya just get together for the regular cruises and other events etc?

G.R. 02-02-2007 05:48 PM

Nope! Just an early year get together @ the Red Hook Brewery in Woodinville and then most of them meet up for the Historic races @ S.I.R.(or is it P.I.R.?)very laid back group.

Most of the guys fom the penisula side do not make it to any of the NWCC cruises due to time and ferry/distance travel...it can be a a problem to meet up when you have to catch the 5:30 a.m. boat to meet up with the group by say 8 a.m. or so for a day cruise.
The guys here do get together for cruises and other events. Most of us try to avoid the freeway/traffic congestion in the Seattle area.
There are 5 replicas on the island and about another 6-8 or so from areas close to us. Time and work constraints prevents several of us from all getting together at one time.

Wish we could all get together say once a month for a breakfast meeting...but so far we haven't

Thanks Andy. Gig Harbor and Fox Island! I was born in Tacoma and during my early high school years I went to Peninsula High School back in the 60's and lived way out on the Longbranch peninsula during that time. Fox Island...now that's an isolated Cobra for sure. We'll both, Karen and I, be anxious to meet and greet all the club members as soon as we get moved in, probably early next year after our house is built. Lookin' forward to those backroads for sure!!

Bill
