Actually several U.S companies have new M4 style weapons in service with the Military as we speak. The new Barrett in 6.8mm is one that is very nice. I just picked up a Barrett M99 in .416 and their qualty is outstanding. The problem with the M4 is barrel length. The 5.56mm round is very good in the standard M16 barrel length, but the Military is primarily using the M4 now which has a shorter barrel length and it results in a much lower velocity with the 5.56mm round. I think you will see a weapon similar to the new Barrett being adopted which is very similar to the M4 that most people in the military are very comfortable with, but with a more effective round. I also think it will be built in the U.S. Spec Op units have always used a variety of weapons including the AK-47 which is a very cheap and crude weapon compared to the M16 / M4. They have their reasons though because of their special missions.
Just putting some info out there. I don't have a problem with some of the stuff you listed above not being American, but a contract as huge as the new re-fueling tanker should definitely be built in America IMO...

I have no argument with that. If the Air-bus is so much better than what our aviation companies can design then why not buy one, and one only then incorporate the best of their design?
More than likely many someones are making big bucks under the table if such a deal goes through.
