Default 460 Engine build

The main reason I go with the 514 stroker is to get away from the Ford 2.500 large rod journal size. It is not a very good design for higher RPM use with it's narrow width and large diameter. The 514 stroker crank uses the much better BB Chevy rod journal size of 2.200. The other problem with the 460 Ford engine is that the main oil galley is also the passenger lifter galley and you get a lot of oil lost around the lifters. The main and rod bearings are not getting oiled as good as they really should for a performance engine. This is the same thing that Ford did on the 351C engines and it worked fine for a street low HP engine. We install lifter bore bushing to make the galley solid with a .060 hole to each lifter and this oils the bottom end much better. I would ask your engine builder if he is aware of this problem. You will need to run a little more clearance on the 3.00 mains and 2.5 rods if you stay with that deal. The 514 is a better package for all of the reasons listed above and makes more power. Just change the power band with the camshaft and lower the compression and run on regular gas. Free cheap and more reliable HP witch is a no brainer. Good luck, Keith
