registering replica in Oregon for first time

I am about to register my cobra in Oregon. Can some one that has done this recently help me?
It has never been titled or registered. The DMV website says it needs DEQ, does it?
The person I bought it from said that all I have to do for the VIN inspection is to take a pencil rubbing of the VIN plate into DMV. Is that right?

Please share any tips you think I could use

Thanks, Jim

Jim,
No DEQ, just visit DMV and it should be very easy. I was directed by a Club Cobra member to go to the Lake Oswego (Boones Ferry Rd.) DMV and have Mr. Brown (no relation to me) do the work. I did so and he was great, he knew exactly what to do and it was a snap.

Your car will be registered as a 1965 Ford with a title brand that states "Replica".

Mr Brown?

How do I get Mr. Brown? Do I make an appointment with him?
Do you have contact info for him?
How long ago did you do yours?

Thanks, Jim

Jim:
Replica vehicles are a snap to register in Oregon as long as you have the MSO. All that is done is the MSO is checked against the vehicle I.Dl plate and you're in. They're not concerned with lights, brakes, belts or anything else and no emissions testing necessary. Took me all of 15 minutes to register my ERA.

Jim,

Like Don C. said, it's really easy and quick. The Mr. Brown I'm referring to happens to have done a bunch of replica vehicles so he was very efficient. He's the guy with the beard at that DMV. If you go to that office just wait for him.

But again, it is a breeze! Congratulations, you're going to love your Cobra!

If you're in Portland, hook up with Don C. and his gorgeous ERA. He'll take you on some very nice drives with a great bunch of guys.

I have the MSO, do I have to bring the car in for a VIN inspection?
If so how do I do that when it is not licensed?
Will a pencil rubbing work like I was told?

I cant wait to drive it

Thanks, Jim

I don't know about the pencil rubbing, or if the vehicle has to actually be there; mine was.

We just jumped in and headed to DMV without plates or tags. They issued a temporary registration that day.
