May be moving from Austin to Seattle
I have a FFR MkII Challenge Car (street legal) that I run @ NASA events, so I have a few questions:
1) Is there any inspection/registration process in the Seattle area for Kit Cars ? Mine is titled here in Texas as a 1965 Ford or can I just carry over my registration from TX ? 2) What racing or HPDE leagues (seems NASA is not in the NW) and tracks are in the Seattle area ? 3) Is the NW Cobra club active with meets, drives etc ? There seems to be limited drive season in the NW |
I know that SCCA (Solo 1, and Solo 2) groups are very active, and they are a great group of folks.

Your car will be registered the same way it was in TX. You got a '65. You can buy original WA 1965 plates on line and if you run them you never have to pay for another renewal and you have no emission inspections (also will have to only run a rear plate).

Your vehicle will be inspected by the State Patrol. It is not a equipment inspection but they check for stolen vehicles coming in from out of state.
The driving season is from about May through early September. I'm not involved in any racing venues but there is a racetrack, Seattle International Raceway, (S.I.R.) about a 45 minute drive south of Seattle. The NW Cobra Club is a loose formation of Cobra owners. We do not have meetings, pay dues or go on scheduled runs. We do like to get together for runs throughout the state and annually have one or two runs that go from overnight to a week in duration. We use this forum to set up spur of the moment runs and get togethers. The most active members seem to be in the Central and South Puget Sound areas. Let us know when you get in the area and we will get together and drink beer and tell lies. |

Make sure your Starbucks card is valid.

Are you sure it has to be inspected. If it is already titled I didn't have to do mine (2 years ago) I just walked in to the contract DMV place with my old title and they gave me a new one. I was under the impression that they had quit inspecting just before I got mine done, except for new builds. Mine came in from Kansas.

Tony,
Are you going on the cruise on Saturday? Were you going to tell us you were moving then? This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!! AND so does the weather up there. Stay here. Steve:( |
Tony:
Don't have much to add - my FFR isn't registered yet. My preliminary research shows (sorry, no links, so this should only be considered "rumor") that the VIN inspection requirement has been dropped as being too expensive for not enough benefit. Oh, and I made the same move myself a few years back. Moved from Hyde Park to within the Seattle city limits. Let me know if you have any questions, etc. --Joe Update - These seem to indicate the VIN inspection is still required: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.12.440 http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.16.680 |
You should also check out portland international raceway.

I may be there on Saturday, fighting a injector issue and a alternator issue (not getting charge back to battery, alternator checks out, so must be in the ignition switch or in the regulator wire someplace). |
