Mid-Ohio Driving School Waiver

Hello All,
I am signed up to attend the 3-day Accura High Performance Course in a couple of weeks because my Cobra will be finished and on the road in a couple months and I hope to learn the skills that will help me operate it safely. I also want to get my competition card sometime in the future. I have never taken a course from a racing school and was wondering if the liability waiver they want me to sign is industry standard or something I should shy away from and find another school. Most of it seems to be standard boiler plate about them taking no responsibility for anything with the exception of wanting a credit card number to charge if their car gets damaged in some way ( One waiver is for up to $3,500 per car and the other is for up to $5,000 per car). I am paying more to use their car.Don't they have insurance to cover damage to their school cars ? Maybe I am reading too much into this thing. Does anyone have experience with the Mid-Ohio School and know about these waivers? Thanks.........:confused:

I took the 1 day school last year (part of my sponsorship package with the track). I had to sign the same waiver and give them a credit card also.

You really have to be stupid to get in trouble with the car, although as I mentioned, my class was only 1 day and it was following an instructor on the track with no passing.

I heard that in another class about a week later, a student did something dumb, hit a wall and cha-ching.....they ran the credit card!!

This is just my experience and it was a good one. Maybe some other CC members can chime in.

I am an investor and on the board of a new racetrack being built down here in Austin, Texas (www.drivewayaustin.com). I have also been on a couple of Skip Barber courses around the country, as have many others, I'm sure). At our track, EVERYONE has to sign such a waiver about responsibility etc., and if they are using our cars (we are JUST starting this part of the program), they will also have to sign a similar 'financial responsibility' clause as the one referred to above. I think it is fairly standard!

If the track does NOT have concrete barrier walls etc., but just grass runoffs, then I think you are pretty safe!

I've done Skip Barber driving school and Richard Petty Driving Experience. I remember signing liability waivers for both, but I don't remember signing anything stating that I was responsible for car damage.

At Skip Barber, I drove Viper GTS's, with no damage liability.

Brent...which track were you using for the schools? Was it an 'open' track, with no concrete barrier walls? I did mine at Sebring, with concrete down the long straight, and I swear I could remember a financial 'waver'

Hey thanks guys,

I was a little nervous about handing someone a blank check for up to $8500. without hearing from someone who had been there, done that. I guess I'll go ahead and give them a try.
